I'm trying to locate a set of starting handle clips that fit behind the jump seat on my '77 FJ40 - even one clip is a start as I intend to start producing these for restorers . To my knowledge , there is only one style of these clips , or "springs" as listed in the oem parts drawings . Here is a pic from MUD -

I'm also trying to find an original starting handle guide that bolts to the front bumper , another item I'd like to reproduce for the community -

Please folks - do some digging , there has to be someone that has some of this stuff laying around . Ship to zip is 61349 and have PayPal .

Thanks ,

Man I'm still trying also to get you those parts . Have you tried talking to Mike Fox ? FoxFab on here ? He stopped producing them but would be cool if he would help you start .

I have two out of the three clips that go on the fender and they are staring me in the face right now. Both look like the top fender red ones in your picture and I am not sure if the bottom is the same. I may have the third one somewhere.

I was going to mount my starting handle next month with the two clips but you can borrow them for awhile if you want. I would not be able to send them to you for the next two weeks because I will be out of town and I am trying to finish some other things first.

I don't have the guide that goes on the bumper but looks easy to make.

What year cruiser are these from? And was the cruiser imported by Toyota to the US? I'm not even sure Toyota ever imported them on a FJ40 to the US. The FJ25 has a guild for the crank handle on the radiator mounting bracket. Those were gone on all Fj40s I've seen. None of my early FJ40 hard tops (2 61s & 1 62) have signs of the clips ever being installed as well as the 62 FST tub I have. These were excluded very quickly here.

One of (maybe both) my 1962's has mounting holes for the clips, but the clips are long gone.

Hard top or soft top models? I just checked my 62 soft top again and no sign of them ever being there. It was pre defrost vents in the windshield frame and ashtray. My 62 hard top had both defrost vents in the windshield frame and ashtray. Only other one I could check was 61 hard top about number 900 off the FJ40 production line and it never had them. The way the bottom clips bolts to the side the handle of the crank would be exposed in the hard top door opening.

Had four soft top model FJ25s. One the PO had it restored and can tell where the holes were filled. Two had the offset holes for the bottom clip on the side of the tub. The last one is the grey one pictured in this thread and still has the clips.

My total intention is to provide the US market models with those clips , whether they actually ever came into this market or not . I can make the starting handle (if I find the right alloy) as well as the clips and make them available to Cruiser owners . Mine has the screws that mount the clips as well as the bolt holes on the front bumper for the guide - and the correct crankshaft nut . If demand goes high enough I may just have the stuff farmed out to a laser cutter , ect . Mine is a 03/'77 US FJ40LV-KCJA hard top model . I can do a prototype pretty quickly , at least by the end of the month if I have the parts to copy and get them back to their rightful owner(s) , no problem there . Working construction leaves me most of the winter months to build stuff like this and even some summer time depending on the year .

It seems , although no real confirmation - that Toyota excluded these parts from US-market models pretty early , I'd bet around '68 or so...

Well now that I think about, I believe these clips go behind the spare tire in an FJ45Wagon LV and may have been used for the jack rod. But they sure look like the clips above. I attached them to the starting handle and they hold good but they may be spreading too much. Also, the mounting holes are offset and not in a straight line as the holes in my '78 show. My '78 has three sets of holes and screws in them. Either way here are some pictures.

may not be...may just be early jack rod clips. he states they're rod clips, single rod clips are more common than starter handle clips and he says they were right side....where the jack rods are
