damn close to the jack handle clips. iirc, the bolt holes are horizontal/vertical dependant on which way you're looking at it vs the diagonal bolt pattern of the jack rod clips.

Best clip I have found is off a 22r motor . Matches very well and all it needs is holes drilled. Not OEM but holders my starter handle perfect.

I will try to get some tomorrow. They come of the front of the motor on a 20and 22r. They hold some sort of line , not sure what line since I just took them of motors my brother had laying around as parts motors.

I did get a pair of early extension rod clips , the starting handle is definitely bigger but I think the overall dimensions and such can be worked out . Hopefully over the winter I can get a prototype done . Would be great if I could find or at least just borrow one OEM clip to verify the dimensions .... still looking .

I picked up a starter handle from a 55. Would it be the same as a 40?
It's in with the parts I snagged from the 62 sitting next to it. The handle stores under the rear seat with different clips. But I did look hoping to help you out.

I've read that handle is a bit longer than the 40 series version - the clips are basically the same albeit the mounting holes are straight across on the 40 , not offset like the 55's style . They would all work for a pattern setup , way more than I've got now ....
PM me if interesting in selling ....

55 starter handle clips are completely different. they are hinged pieces on the bottom of the seat base.

i've found two different part numbers for the handles, but it appears to be more based on year than model.

That is correct. Had they looked anything like what you are looking for, I would of snagged them in a minute.

I saw your other thread in 40 Tech, I wanted to add:

I was poking around under my 62 series this weekend, the spare tire handle guide seems like as good a candidate as any to base reproduction starting handle guides off of. Same patern, overall size seems about right based on the notched end on 71' 40 series crank pulley. I did not have my phone with me, but I can take a picture at some point.

Excellent , that is the info we need here . That confirms my belief that some of the guide pictures out there are not the ones designed for the front bumper - but instead are the ones designed for lowering the spare tire from some models . I have an original guide for the front bumper here thanks to Numby - it is getting a pattern made from it and will be returned at the end of this week , along with a new prototype for his help/effort . The same offer will go out for the storage clips that hold the starting handle inside the vehicle .

Again , my intention here is to make a "kit" with the starting handle , guide and storage clips to fit the 4* series trucks and offer it up to those who want it for their own rigs/restorations . No , no idea on price since the clips themselves are obviously the most complicated part , plus materials , ect....

I do have a pair of storage clips from an early single-rod jack set , probably mid-60's era 40's . I may be able to make a clip version based off this type for the starting handle by just altering the dimensions , need to work on that soon . I would prefer to have an original in hand for making a prototype/pattern to keep things as correct as possible . I will make every effort possible to keep the replica parts to exact original sizing/thickness - some of this may not be possible just due to material available . If that becomes the case , I may opt to use a slightly heavier gauge material if necessary or just drop that part off the kit which is unlikely . Just not far enough into the project yet and haven't had the time due to work and other obligations . If anyone has just one clip , that is all that is needed for a pattern and the original will be returned to it's owner intact and unaltered .
