I guess. I'm still confused. Why filter the air thats already being recirculated? Whatevs.

Try this:

So you're driving through Atlanta during that time of year where you can actually SEE
-CLOUDS of yellow pollen swirling above the trees on either side of the freeway and all over you (it's amazing to see if you haven't).

-That massive pollen gets into the cabin because it was a beautiful day and you weren't recirculating. -Your asthmatic wife is about to DIE :)

...so you close the windows, turn on recirculation...and hit the filter.
...The filter quickly feeds the already-pollen-infused cabin air through the filter, capturing the pollen.
...After a few minutes of this, it's done what it can do about the pollen in the cabin, so it now goes back to re-circulating the in-cabin air that is free of pollen...with no need to keep sending it through the filter (until it gets contaminated again via open window, etc.).

Tada! It makes sense.

That definitely makes sense and is a good explanation. I think the confusion is this - is the air flowing into the cabin EVER filtered without hitting the filter button? I've literally never once pushed that button, so does that mean I've never had air inside the cabin that was filtered? It seems like a strangely manual process for a sophisticated vehicle, and my guess is 99% of 200 owners don't hit the button on a regular basis if ever. Judging by the condition of the filter I replaced a couple of months ago, I was firmly under the impression that most if not all the air coming into the cabin is going through there.

I'm glad I'm not the only person confused by that button. The Owner's Manual isn't much help.

So... on my last 3 Lexus' you could roll all the windows down and open the sunroof from the remote, just hold down the Unlock button. Very handy on a hot day like today. Is there a way to program the 200-series to do this? Mine won't do it now, seems like it should.

And... changed the batteries in both of my remotes the other day. Now one of them will no longer work. Nothing. Even tried a different known good battery. Trip to the dealer for re-programming required?

Can I put TRD brake pads on a '16? I know folks have done it with earlier 200 models but at some point I believe the size of the rotors changed.

My 2008 200 opens the windows and sunroof by holding down the unlock button went outside the car, and it is locked. If yours is not doing that, look in the customization functions in your manual. I believe it can be deactivated or reactivated from there… As well as possibly offering some options for how it operates. If my 2008 has the function, I would be very surprised if other newer model years did not.

Programming your key fob to open your windows after 3 clicks (and hold down on 3rd) of unlock button is quite doable. It does, however, require a working instance of TechStream software along with an OBDII/USB cable. Some LC owners seem to have this enabled by default, others like myself had to use TechStream to enable it.

What have you done to your 200 Series this week?

For replacing your battery, I wouldn't have expected your FOB to have been wiped. I've replaced my battery numerous times without issue. But, FWIW, if you *do* have to re-program your FOB, you can use TechStream for that too. More info on various options here: TIS Techstream - Customization Options for LC200

I like to leave my tailgate open from time to time, yet I don't want any interior lights on. How do I do this?

Interior light override, which is above your rearview mirror. On my 2008, it's the button that is second from the left in the row late there.

Oh Oh! Pick me! Pick me!

Push the DOOR button on the front dome light just behind the mirror. Now none of the dome lights will illuminate when you open the doors or tailgate.

I'm guessing if the HVAC is not on recirc (pulling outside air), it's filtered. I never push that button and when I changed the cabin filter this weekend it was haggard.
The extra recirc button will filter air for a short period then go back to normal operation.
I had the normal recirc on during a night drive to the sierra. I had no idea the Vally was full of smoke from a fire until my wife let a fly out and rolled down the window. First road trip I was sold on the 200.

Thanks for this. Ordered a cable and software.

My SQOD:

Are the Driver's and Passenger's front seat headrests removable and if so how? I know all the other ones are removable. I'm trying to remove the passenger headrest to put in long objects (surfboard) but they are locked in place.

Thanks!

Yep, look for a tiny slot on the headrest mount without the button and stick a screwdriver in there.

The answer is yes for future reference confirmed by Toyota of Dallas.

My 2008 comes off without a screwdriver...using the same little spring loaded pusher the second row has.

I wonder if they made it harder since without it, the front passengers neck might wack their head on those monster screens?

Pretty sure my 2013 only comes off with the screwdriver technique also. Sounds like maybe a 2013+ feature!?!?

For the DIY suspension guru's, how the h--l do you torque the lower control arms rear nut to 207 ft/lbs? Per the manual (TIS) and local knowledge here on mud this must be done with the vehicle on the ground. Lots of room to loosen the control arm fasteners when on the jack stands, precious little when not. I was able to torque the fronts with an extension and the torque wrench handle out towards the tires. But the back nut/bolts now way, not enough room to get even a "click" on the torque wrench between the garage floor and the frame.

Put this in the why didn't I think of this before category. I was thinking that when alignments are done, the vehicle is on a lift that is driven onto, not lifted by the frame. This has the suspension loaded with the weight of the vehicle and allows the tech easy access to the control arms and the control arm bolts. I remembered that I have an old set of ramps, and this would raise the front end giving me room to use the rather large torque wrench. I didn't take any pics yesterday but it worked great, control arm bolts front and back torqued to 207ft/lbs under load.
