You might get the original lower housing with a strap wrench or some very large pliers. It’s not torqued very high if it was installed by the book.
If it was installed by an ape, well . . .

Thanks, I might be lucky as a friend does his own oil changes on his Prius so he has a tool for it.

I’ve also used a strap wrench a few times. Just make sure the strap and the filter housing are clean before going to town

Pretty much any auto parts store has a a cheap chinese toyota filter wrench that's built to fit these cartridge filters.

The oil filter wrench is $5 at Wal-Mart. Also-you could probably get some channel locks on it since I assume the old housing will be going in the trash. It wouldn't matter if you mangled it up a bit.

Just confirming - snow chains, only in the rear? I'm running 285/70r17 so not a lot of room on the stock LX570, but rear is good.

Correct.

A few people have put them in front as well for things like very very steep driveways, but frankly if you absolutely need that you’ll probably be very familiar with chains anyway.

Perfect. Thank you. Going where I probably wont' need chains, but I always come prepared and wanted to make sure I was reading right.

Gotta say access the filter is a PITA.

If you aren’t using one look into a 3/8” cordless impact gun. I get my skids off in less than a minute with one.

Not with a 3/8” impact you ain't...
Even if you have to break things loose with a breaker bar they still save a ton of time running the lugs off and on.

My Dewalt 3/8" Impact Driver with a 5AH battery will remove my lugs.

Right, so will my older Dewalt 3/8" driver but it's marginal at 130 ft-lbs. Some of the newer Dewalt 3/8" impacts will huff out an impressive 250 ft-lbs of tightening torque and 400 ft-lbs.

Anyone know if this part is from a 200-series? Found it on top of my skids when I pulled them off the other day.

That's impressive. I actually don't own a cordless 3/8" impact, maybe it's time to add one to the arsenal.

Yes, same logic as best tires/most profile depth on the back to prevent spinning 360 degrees. That includes any regular front wheel drive cars you may have.

I found a similar part on my skids. Such as I am wondering if similar.
