So apparently while treating the 50 year old like a rock crawler a couple years ago I tested the limit of the rear spring perch. I slammed it pretty hard on the outside leading edge and never looked at closely. Apparently sheared the pin and twisted the perch.

I thought these were iron, but it definately didn't crack. Think I should heat and twist it?

Can't hurt to try. I doubt they're iron or a lot more would have failed over the years. There's only like 3/16" of material on the sides where the pin mounts.

Buggery. Only good that came out of that was that it apparently did crack previously which would have shown up eventually ......if this hadn't happened when we went for that last 1/8" to make it perfect. Not enough heat, but evidence of an older crack.

ouch!
I believe they are cast steel. I have welded shock towers and steering arms, which seem to be similar/same casting material, with very good results. cast iron vs grinder produces short, red sparks while mild steel produces yellow/white and longer sparks.
