Ya, I knew about the kit, But throwing on a 62's case would be much better and cheaper. Gawld I hate AWD. I am alreayd runnign AISIN lock outs on the 80....but want to ditch the t-case for a part-time....I am gonna see what I can dig up....

You have Aisin selectable hubs mounted on your 80? If you're running them unlocked with the center diff unlocked, you're going to be shopping for a new transfer case sooner than expected. The viscous coupling won't take it for long.

91-92s dont have viscous couplings :D and it would not move with out the CDL lock and the hubs un-locked anyway.....dont you worry now ;)

vacuum split case to manual split case conversion:

90254-05004 roll pin for front axle op rod
36313-60050 rod front axle
(then you need hollow 15mm nut , spring, and ball, drill and tap)
(common to 34/38mm manual cases)

36307-60030 lever arm hi/low
36362-60040 gold cad arm for lever above
(common to 34/38 manual cases)

machining is there for front rod seal.

HTH

OK, make that VERY good tech :D

OK I'll just pull mine out real quick pull it apart and count the teeth

and then just throw it back in

easy as pie right?

Seriously tho you guys make me wanna cry with all your tech knowledge and helpfulness........... :crybaby:

Thanks for everything and we WILL get to the bottom of this

Well, you could pull the PTO cover to count teeth. Its a bit easier than splitting the case open.

How about the tranny AND t/c from a 62? Same engine, the tranny "should" hook up! (?)

Try calling McMaster Carr. Although they don't list it, they can get it. Or, look in your local yellow pages for a someone that does tap grinding. They can either get ir or grind one for you.

This is golden, Kurt @cruiseroutfit !!
I'll open the 87 splitcase from my 87 lj73 to check of it has the 2.29 or 1.96.

The transfer in my presumably '88 HJ61 most likely has 1.96.

I'm gonna do a split rebuild soon, so I'll check it out then, and use whatever's lowest.

I never saw this original post but here's my thoughts from many t case rebuilds. When Toyota went to 3:70's in the US they compensated my dropping the low range from the 1:9x to 2:2x.
The split cases I obtained from Australia that were mated to a granny 4 and 5 speeds had a 1:9x ratio. I'm not sure what axle ratio Toyota ran there.
I assume, but didn't actually check, that when the 62 was released with 4:11's again that they went back to the 1:9x ratio. I've only gone through one of those and I didn't actually take time to count the teeth.
