No doubters here at all. I always look forward to & have learned much from many of your post. Guess what I am trying to do is convince myself that I could duplicate your experience.

i have found that if you line up the split in the ring over the weld seam opposite the tube stem it balances better...also the flap is a big issue for unbalance tires.

how do you align you ring lostmarbles? is it over a weld?

The gaps in my rings do end up being very close to "over the joining-welds" in my rims Johnny.

But those "joining welds" on my wheels don't appear to be exactly 180 degrees opposite my "valve stem holes". Hence I'm saying "very close" rather than "directly on". (Perhaps this is extra evidence of how overly fussy I can be )

Obviously our aim (to aid balancing) is to place the locations of the "gaps/holes" (ie. "missing metal") 180 degrees opposite each other.

So I just concentrate on centre-ing the ring-gap (by eye) against this gap here (arrowed) which happens to be diagonally-opposite the one in which the valve-stem-hole sits.

I'm not saying such a small difference (between the way you do it and the way I do it) will noticeably affect balance.

I think I do it my way probably because my welds are quite hard to see. (I cleaned up my wheels quite a bit before hot-dipping them and that included tidying up those welded areas.)

And, for all I know, the welds on your wheels may represent a better guide (for the correct gap-location) than they do on mine.
