planing to replace original gearbox and transfer case on our 78 pig; would like to get a h55 in the future............anyway went ahead and got the parking brake adapter form $OR ; pulled the engine for replacement with a 2f + 4 spped and split TC ...............put everything together and got the heavy motha into the truck........then surprise; the adapter kit from $OR does NOT have a cable to connect the hand piece to the drum and salesman stated that he would have used a hydraulic lock!.........??!!!, that will not help if there is a loss of hydraulics and does not help the fact that the kit does not come with a longer cable.......need this groups input to help solve the problem!
any ideas on a source for a longer cable? ............$OR tech support was of no help beyond suggesting I should have bought a hydraulic lock!!!! ! or that I needed to fabricate a longer cable:censor:

Longer Cable

You might PM Seth at PVcruisers, I know this subject came up when I ordered the H55 and tranfercase rebuild kit from him. I should know a bit more in the coming weeks as the engine and trans are going in.

I think Downey has a long cable. if you wait a few days we will suss out a FJ 62 cable ont eh same sort of set up.

Another thing we have done is to install FJ60 backing plates on the rear axle. We then jsut adapt a 60/62 cable to the 55 handle. Better brake with fewer issues.

mine will hold the pig on a30+ % grade with no problems... ecept my carbed 350 wanted to stall out. old drum with new shoes soaked in oil cus that seal leaks... i think welding the rear dif did alot fof p-brake performance.

Seth, David, Lou. Carl, Snwagon & Rhino..and..............appreciate the info........was very P.O.d at $OR when I got the reply that they would have bought a "line lock" instead of the P.B. adapter...........yes, the PB is a poor substitute for the Hydraulic brakes BUT if everything else fails it can be a life saver in a total hydraulic failure<been there done that> thanks y'all for putting up with my diatribe

I've got a long cable for the parking brake on the end of my doubler...extra long and heavy-duty. Heard it was a Toyota part sold in snowy countries like Sweden or something like that...Morgan bought it and I got it when I bought his doubler. He probably got it through Mudrak, who built the doubler...maybe give Mudrak a call?

Yes. My parking brake works very well. I just keep it dry (oil free) and adjusted...

Does anyone own a pig with a transfercase parking brake that works? Mine might hold the pig on a 2 degree grade. Even with brand new shoes mine always seems more for looks. I have to fake p-brake safety inspections with it.

The one on the '76 isn't too bad either once my wife left the e-brake on for a 1/2 mile or so and burned all the oil out of the linings!

There was an article in TT; putting a toybox into an FJ55. They also needed a longer cable. They had the vendor information for the extension they used, I don't have that available but maybe someone here does.

I couldn't find the article on TT went ahead and called Gary at Mudrak and he is sending a longer cable off of a very early FJ 40; will let y'all know how it goes.....again thanks for all the help; this pig would never have been revived w/o it :)
