just finished another h55f combo for a customer/friend/fellow mudder. started with a used 5spd. rebuiklt it, added an fj62 split case, marks gears and modified it for mechanical shiift along with my twin stick kit. pretty happy with how it turned out, considering what i started with. :wrench:

here are a couple of pics of the linkage attachment point at the 2-4 shift rod.

i don't have written instructions for the kits yet but i will do my best to write up an install thread on here later next week.

This is GENIUS how you did the 2-4 shifter!

Very nice, I was thinking about how to do this to my HZJ78 troopcarrier after finding the hilux twin sticks wouldn't work. Figured it could be done exactly how you have, but I don't have the skills to make it happen.

Any idea if these will these work with the R151F in a HZJ78?

Not sure what sort of transfer it has, how do you tell?

It looks pretty similar to the transfer linkages in your photos.

not sure if it'll work, we don't get those transmissions in the states. we also don't get troopies, traybacks, or any of the bitchin diesel engines over here.:frown:

can you get under the troopie and take a few pics? if so, then i can determine if the kit will work or if we can make it work.

looking good, but your high-neutral-low shift block is on backwards. in order to get the proper geometry, take it off, flip it upside down and re-install it. take a look at the pics early in this thread and it should be very easy to figure out.
the set screw should come in from the front and seat on the flat part of the shift shaft ( sticks out of the top of the case ).

Pre-install questions

I'm installing one of these twin stick kits tomorrow on the H55+splitcase in my 42. The trans is already installed. I assume I can install one of these with a trans in the vehicle?

When swapping the stock H-N-L arm to the block in the kit, is there a trick to keeping the shaft stationary in the tcase? I'd like to prevent it from falling into the tcase. (I did that once already and it's a PITA.)

Does anyone have any photos of what the bent shifter arms end up looking like for a 40 series? I'd rather not reinvent the wheel if possible.

hey mark.
i've sued two different techniques to keep the shift arm from dropping down into the case and they both work:
1) push against the very base or the arm with a straight bladed screw driver. that will keep it from falling down yet allow you to install the shift block.
2) use a small piece of tie-wire and put a side-load on the arm that way. works in the same fashion as the screw driver.
this job is a lot easier with the trans tunnel removed. it also helps to have somebody else there helping you.
as for the shifters, there's not one "right" way to do it. a lot of it depends on personal prefferance and the year of the cruiser. there are at least 4 different style fj40 tunnels that i'm aware of.
