I decided to do a quick write-up on the installation of a 100 series barrier.

Tools required:

5mm allen
10mm box
flat and phillips screw drivers.

Time around 20 minutes depending your your beverage consumption.

First step is to remove both the 3rd row grab handles. The barrier requires no drilling to install. It simply utilizes the 4 captured nuts already in your land Cruiser's headliner. Use the flat head to pop the two covers to of each handles. Then the phillips to remove the two OEM screws holding on the grab handles. Repeat on the passenger side.

Pics.

You'll have the following hardware:

8 - M6, 30mm cap bolts
8 - M6 washers
4 - M6 nuts
2 - 3/8" spacers
2 - 1/2" spacers

Install the mounting brackets to each side of the vehicle using the 1/2" spacers on the passenger side and the 3/8" on the driver's. A pair 30mm bolts and washers for each. The pictures below have a two pice bracket for the driver's side, production models will have a one piece design. I'll update this after the first production run.

Finally connect the barrier to its mounting brackets using the remaining hardware. I like to put the washers on the outside of the barrier but it makes no real difference. Tighten everything up being careful not to strip out the captured nuts in the roof. Hand tight is fine. Finish your beverage and admire your work your done.

Sweet. Excellent mounting idea. Looking for something like this with a baby on the way and 250 lbs of dog behind her...

SWEET!

Can the left bracket be used on the right side for us folks without rear A/C?

Shane

could you post a pic that shows the full cargo area. The first thing that comes to mind is where the barrier would sit with respect to the headliner. I'm guess there would be a large gap with no AC to fill it. Might require a completely different set of brackets to locate the barrier higher. The barrier its self might need to be taller?

You got it. I'll take measurements from floor to ceiling and whatever else you need.

The bracket would be either specific to the non AC trucks or the barrier to have a second set of holes to raise it just below the headliner.

Shane.

Any reason this won't fit in an LX470? I want one!!

Eloquent solution for mounting. I like it. That mounting idea might also work for an over head shelf, drawers, or ????

Looks like you have an 04. Does it have side impact airbags? If so then no :(

I do have an '04. Does that mean it physically won't fit? Or it won't work because it might impede airbag deployment?

I really need to find a cargo/dog barrier solution to keep my mutts in the back of the car.

Both. From what I've found the 04's 3rd row grab handles both point downward form their mounting points. Earlier models (with rear AC) RH handle points downward like yours and the LH points inward. I posted pics of this in the for sale thread today. https://forum.ih8mud.com/vendor-mar...oad-ltd-100-series-barrier-now-available.html

Double check there and let me know. I'm not an expert on the variations of the 100 series through the years. Just trying to learn quick so I can post a definitive fitment list based on model year.

I will double check and let you know with pictures. I am interested to know if you can modify to fit my Cruiser.

I forgot to get back to you...

They do both point downward. I'm still interested if you can make this work.

How do you mount a barrier in a model with side curtain airbags then?
