maybe a dumb question but wondering what you guys do where the speedo cable use to fit (trans/transfercase)?

I removed it from the speedo gauge and stuffed it behind the dash out of the way.

The speedo connection at the t-case can simply be left empty (but preferably capped), it is sealed from the t-case internals.

Found this from another MuD thread. Located my fuel wires. Removed the tank float and checked continuity in wire by lifting float up and down.

Located the Speedhut backlighting dimmer switch in the same stock dimmer location. It does have a nice little turn dial. Trying to get the stock one to fit.

Ran the GPS sensor wire inside the windshield molding and used double sided tape to apply in the upper corner.

With everything ready it’s time for testing.

I decided to take Snowball on a test drive with the gauges laying on my lap. First because I wanted to make sure everything worked and second it’s not the most fun stuffing the wire in and having to pull again if something doesn’t work. Went on a couple miles test drive.

The gauges all worked. My only issue is I’m not getting backlighting which was nice that I didn’t put the panel in yet. Couldn’t be happier. Hoping to have time Monday to drive the 60 to my house from my buddy Brian’s and have it home again. Next up will be rear retractable seatbelts from Seatbelt Planet.
Happy Memorial Weekend. Thanks to those who fought and served for our country. God bless America 🇺🇸

Hojak,

How did you determine the second wire for the fuel line. I have the same yellow and pink wire, but there isn’t a singe white and black wire in my harness. I would rather use these lines than deal with running this entire new one.

May not matter since I can’t get the truck to start now anyway.

On another note, I’m getting power, to the gauges but no back lighting, even through they share the same ground and ignition hot. Have checked by disconnecting the power distribution lines and backlighting. I can hear the relay buzzing, but can’t tell that anything is actually happening when I rotate the knob.

Also, I must be pretty terrible at this because my tach doesn’t do anything (ever really) when I use the button to program it, I’m getting a big fat zero at all times. Getting nothing at the voltmeter, and since I can’t get the truck to start I can’t check whether or not my temp and oil pressure gauges work either (no oil pressure while the starter is turning over anyway). The LCD on the GPS lights up, but that’s it, nothing comes up on the display.

Bitchfest over. Frustration coming in droves today.

I know I said I was done, but the Fan for the AC won’t run either.

Yeah. I’ve had the AC fan go out before I remember it being one of the fusable links/big relay. I really messed up some stuff today.

Would have been nice to get your 2 cents on a few things for sure Trail Tailor.

Give me a shout next time you’re down.

I cut the wire adjacent to the yellow/ red wire which is white and black. Stripped the wire and removed the tank float. Moved the float up and down and had continuity when full and not when empty.
I also don’t have backlighting but will be working on this after the weekend.

I think we just need to tap into a different wire. You may also need the stock dimmer to light up the rest of your dash.

I don’t remember which wire I tapped into for the backlight, but it one of the stock dimmer wires.

I’m just stoked my gauges worked. I know it’ll get figured out. One thing I’ve learned with a swap is a lot of damn patience.
