Small update. WCT put on sum 37" km2 and had a new spartan lockers put in front and rear. Went to windrock with Srob,Jrob,Jt and all the girls this past weekend. Truck was awesome! Lockers made a big difference. Only issue is no driver steering when in 4wd. Passenger is one finger to turn but driver is nearly impossible. I Gorgled it and he said PS gear box could be bad. Or a broke birf. But these are longfields and not making a lot of noise when turning. Jt and I played around with it and noticed when almost full lock driver it would pop like it was in a bind. Did nothing going passenger. I am getting new gear box(master pro # 27-6537 & 27-6529) hoping one will be 4.25 turn. Also new pump(cardone # 20-6000). Adding a cooler while I'm at it. Will see if this works. One day I'll put a picture up with the 37s, it looks good:clap:

Did someone "give" you the Spartan lockers? Just wondering why you would choose that brand.

Long story short, had that style in the rear. It broke and I needed something fast, cheap and easy. Keep in mind I have fully built 60 series with arbs in storage. Just no time or place to swap them out.

Thanks Todd. I've heard of some reliability issues with these units is why I asked.

Todd,

I was driving through Hernando square yesterday and saw a very clean red 40. It was not yours. It had some sort of funky rollcage. Know the guy?

Not everyone is a Cruiser Geek. There are several guys in town that have Cruisers but could care less about being members of CLC. How dare they... !!

Ben Pucket was at my house last night. He has that fine blue RHD 40 that has been at Rob's shop. don't think he cares one bit about us!!!!!

just bought it in Laurel, completely disassembled it, rebuilt it and done. (the bigger question is how the heck do you do THAT without mud help!!?)

Well finally got around to fixing my steering system. Sent all my stuff to West Texas off-road. The rebuilt everything and sent ram assist parts. When they sent it back they called and said I needed to clean or get new hoses and cooler because the parts I sent had metal pieces in them. So everything will be replaced.

Started on it yesterday. Fixed my alignment issue on the pump.

Had to weld a 1/4 in piece of steel to the bracket and grinned it down at a angle so it lines up much better now.
Then went to install the gear box. And I noticed this...

I thought this is bad...
So now I will be redoing my steering shaft. Can't replace that piece because it's all welded on when PO did the conversion.

Question? Should I replace that shaft with a telescoping one? Or just leave it solid. I will be cutting it off when it comes out of the firewall and going new stuff to the gear box.

I would definitely replace it with a telescoping one. For safety reasons they need to be able to slide in case of a wreck.

Just looked at JTTMT's thread and I might go this route. I know that it's a solid shaft but it's beefier than the flaming river stuff. And cost less.
It might even work with the joint that's already welded to the steering shaft by the fire wall.
