Only because i took out a complete body crossmember and mount as well as 20" of frame i'd say mabe 35lbs, the body itself weighs nothing really.

bad idea on shortening it yourself...not many people would weld on a used gas tank, it'll ignite like that...IMO, I would say start from scratch, I know you don't wanna hear it but I'd recomend it. Good luck with all.

Oh come on, what could happen?
Seriously though i have welded a few gas tanks in the past, and they were gasoline not diesel.
It is not the fumes that bother me at all, it's the contures of the bottom of the tank.

nice poster in the background :D

Christian: I'm sure i'll be able to get glass cut at a glass shop but if not, i'll go with lexan.

Only got a few hrs after work, picked up the tank from sandblasting and started cutting, i think it's gonna work for me. Top is cut straight across bottom i over lapped to get more fuel from the bulge.

Finished off the tank today. Here it is primed, painted undercoated and sealed.
Will fill it up later to see what the capacity is.

Finished to 120 grit on the bottom, anal i know but what the hell and undercoat hides well for the top.

i like the idea of leaving the extra bit on the bottom of the tank for overlap truck is looking good.
