He is very responsive when messaging him on ebay...the only reason I haven't purchased anything is bc I haven't found any bumper reviews. Thanks to @Yeti80 and @SkyMall for taking the first plunge!

Not a problem. His communication has been spot on since day one when contacting him which is a huge plus since I am a little obsessive when purchasing expensive parts. He is willing to answer any and all questions I have had so far. He gave me the tracking number and the bumper should be here around the end of next week. I will update then =)

You bet! I have to say that I'm a little torn about it. There are some really fantastic fabricators and folks running small businesses supporting our obsession with the ole 80, and buying inexpensive imported parts isn't helping their cause. However, I will say that while I lust after the Costa Fab front bumper and the fancier rears, I'm never going to have the cash to sink into the low volume custom stuff. It's just never going to be in my budget - and I suspect that I'm not alone. I bet there are lots of folks who would be willing to spend $1000 on a "good enough" rear bumper and if I'm right, they aren't competing with the custom fabricators because they were never going to buy those parts anyway. Just my two cents.. ;)

Nope, I get you completely. I am in the same boat...errrr Land Cruiser.

Well, I did it. I pulled the trigger and bought one of these dual swing-out rear bumpers - the one pictured above on the tan 80. I had a long talk with the guy who sells these and he was really upfront about what the bumper is and isn't. I'll do a full write-up once it's installed. For the price, I'm cautiously optimistic!
I've been looking at those. I've pretty much decided to just build swingouts on my stock bumper. Got most of the parts, just need time to do it. You need to post some pics on WTO when you get it installed.

Oh you know I will!! That place is so J**p-centric it's crazy. I'm going on the Overland trip on April 1st, so there should be lots of good pictures from that.

I'm out traveling for work, but the bumper arrived on-time at my mechanic's shop a couple days ago. He said it was wrapped in a ton of bubble-wrap but not on a pallet, but that he is pretty sure that's because they tried to deliver it the day before and he wasn't there so they brought it back in a smaller truck that wouldn't fit a shipping pallet. I think it's going on today. I've asked for some pictures but he's pretty slammed and I'm lucky he's putting it on right away. I'm picking up my rig next week and I'll share some pictures and my initial thoughts.

I'm also going on a 200 mile trip with West Tennessee Offroad the weekend of April 1-2, so I'll probably have another update after that.

Oh, my guy did mention that he spoke with the seller after I bought mine but before it arrived, and that pending inspecting mine for quality he was considering picking one up for himself. I can't speak for him, but it sounds like he liked what he heard.

Installed over the weekend perhaps? Any news?

I haven't seen it in person yet, but I got a few pics today. I forgot to tell my guy not to install the diamond plate, so hopefully he can take that off. It just looks... cheap. Other than that, it looks pretty good. He's got the mudflaps to trim and install and hang the tire on the back. I'm trying to get my hands on a red Scepter 20L gas can for my upcoming trip, which should look pretty good in that can carrier. I don't really need the ladder, so the left swing-out is probably going to be modified at some point but for now it looks really "expo" ;)

Added bonus: you have a white truck too. Now I have a better idea of what'll look like on my truck.

Was there a model or part number for this version?

americans complaining about things made in china then asking for kaimar (australian), writing notes on a chinese made computer, going through a chinese made router, stopping at walmart which sources a variety of their products from china buying from stores at the mall where the goods get made in china, the list goes on.

I don't have a big Chinese agenda, but these types of reactions of knocking a product because it was made in china is passe. a significant amount of products are made in china, and of the products that aren't , a significant amount of the materials that they are made of it they're not made in china may have come from china.

i get it, yet I don't.

Australia makes some pretty stout off road gear...definitely better than typical Chinese stuff. The bumper is nice for an inexpensive bumper, but the American made Slee/Labs/BIOR/etc. use nearly 50% thicker steel. This bumper is made from 3mm. The American bumpers are 3/16- 1/4". Although the bumper is cheap, I think the adage you get what you pay for genuinely applies. No offense to those purchasing though...I'm giving it a look and I think most people know that for $900 you're not getting a Slee clone.

like i said, I get it yet, I don't.

Where does slee/labs/bior source their steel and parts from?

This bumper is made from 3mm.

When I spoke with the seller (importer) he made a point of saying that he deliberately uses thinner steel than other bumpers in order to keep the weight down. He was really up front about that, and mentioned that if I was looking for a bumper that was intended as stout protection his wasn't the right one. It was designed to get the spare out from under the truck, give you a place to store a gas can, and be a little stronger than what was there from the factory.
