My vehicle ADD has slowed down a lot, but it obviously isn't gone! I went out and bought a 1987 Suzuki Samurai... The hard stuff is done, so this is more of a modification thread than a build thread. Anyway, here are the details:

  • Full Toyota drivetrain: 232RE, W56 transmission, single RF1A top shift t-case with stock gears
  • Trussed Toyota 8" front axle w/ RCVs, 5.29's, and ARB
  • Trussed Toyota 8" rear axle w/ 5.29's and a welded carrier
  • 3rd Gen Toyota RUF
  • Old Man Emu rear springs
  • Full Cage and 4-point harnesses
  • High steer with 5th stud
  • 37" Old Skool MTR's with about 75% tread on steel wheels
  • On-board air
  • Smittybilt XRC Gen2 9.5k winch
Okay, enough talking... Here are the pics from the ad:

Hahahahahaha! NOW I know where it went!!!!

I nearly ended up being in that rock pile photo 😂

I’ve put some extensive thought into this Offroad food truck idea and if you don’t do it, I might. It would be a pretty cool retirement gig to drive to Offroad events and serve hot dogs and hamburgers. Pull up to the lookout on Poison 🕷️ and setup shop. A Sami might be too small for this, but maybe an FJ28, widened and lengthened. 🙄 💭

An any event, I am excited to see what the plans are for this rig. I love these trucks.

@CreeperSleeper what IS the plan? It’s pretty well built, just really needs some better low end gearing IIRC

Are you going to push to have it ready for this August?

What are your plans? LS4, 8spd auto, Aqualu lengthened body, mini fridge/grill off of the back? Food truck Offroad Sami on 54” swappers?

Not what I was thinking, but I totally think you need this! But make it a taco truck... Everyone loves tacos.

I don't think I will bring it to Rubicon. I'm going to let Jeremy drive me around in the gray truck, so I will probably end up walking the whole thing. LOL!

I don't pick the Sami up until Wednesday, but I couldn't help myself from shopping...

I knew that I wanted to get beadlocks and I found that Autoplicity.com had Vision Manx beadlocks on sale for way too cheap. So I ordered them.

This wheel calculates to about a 4" backspace, which is more than I like. However, it's going on Toyota axles under a Sami. I just need to find a skinny tire!

I started talking to a buddy of mine and he threw out a crazy suggestion: "You know, I bet that Sami is light enough you could get away with running SxS tires."

Well that got the wheels turning... Did you know that Maxxis makes a competition sticky SxS tire in 37x10.00r17?!? Neither did I! Did you know you could get them on sale shipped to your door for $316 a tire?!? Neither did I! But I do now...

I knew that I would be pushing it a bit because of the wheel width, but I thought it could work. Taking the chance, I just couldn't wait... I had to get them mounted up. I think this is going to work awesome!

I know this isn't a fair comparison, but this is the tire next to the Kanati Mud Hog 37x12.50r17 on a 17x9 Walker Evans beadlock.

The next step is 4.7 gears for the transfer case. I'm not sure if I'm just going to rebuild one of my top-shift cases with new gears or order a complete t-case (on sale right now from Trail Gear) and sell my cases... I know it would be a bit cheaper to do it myself, but I'm kinda lazy.

Dang those stickies are going to look just right I think!

Btw, I still have a 20% off from Marlin, I really don’t have anything to use it on. You can have it if you’re looking for better gearing 👍

You let me know 😉

Sick. Those Rockzillas are BEEFY. Have thought about this route for an off road tire setup onnone of the 40’s. There are even some 39x10 SXS sticky tires avaliable!
