Hello Everyone!

My Nokia finally crapped out so I upgraded to my wife's old iphone 3GS. :princess: With its build in GPS I can finally ditch my TomTom which kept falling off its suction every time I hit a bump.

I wanted something sleek, tidy and mounted high up on the dash for easy visibility. So I decided to use the cup holder 55620-60010 and made an adapter for it.

First I drew it out in Solidworks :hmm:

Then I export it to the Makerbot 3D printer I got for christmas

Printed and it looks good!!

Cup holder

Adaptor installed :bounce:

Phone installed :bounce::bounce2:

Next, I'm planning to make a slot on the bottom so I can plug the charger on it.

3D printer for Xmas?! Someone been really good!

nice toy to play with I am sure

I like that. It's slick. I don't have the cup holder tho, may have to make something for the empty slot to make it work.

Very nice! I bet you could find a market for those.

Whatever...

Yep jealous much.

That's awsome! Very clean look to it.

Needs a slot below for the charging cable :)

We have a makerbot 3d here at work - need to find something useful to use it for - this might be my first 'project' for my galaxy s4, and yes, I have the cup holder in our 80. Thanks for the idea.

cheers,
george.

George,

Yes the slot for the cable will be made on the next version. I will also try to make it thinner if possible so you don't have to remove the dock when closing the cup holder.

iPhone 6plus?

It's been a reeeeeally long time.

Here's what I did with my droid maxx. It's a go xt from O'Reilly. Then I bought an extra horizontal sticky mount from ultra gauge and mounted them side by side. Sure is nice not flopping around on the console.

That's a great idea.

Unfortunately I'd have to buy that overpriced cup holder first.

I'm using this long extending Ottie One Touch 2 rising up off the console in front of the ashtray and angled toward the drivers seat.

$24 on Amazon

It extends further than they show it here.

I was actually in the process of making a dash phone mount but sold the 80 before I got the project done. I'm now doing the same project to the new 100. The factory GPS is terrible so I would prefer to just use my phone as my GPS instead of spending $150 on an updated CD to run on an already crappy system.
