I've already begun getting calls this morning. Looks like I might have to start increasing prices. :hmm::smokin:

Already got the LLC and the IRS Paperwork filed. :)

Good article. Glad you have the support of your neighbors (very Fondren-like). Folks in covenant-driven suburbia would likely be less accommodating. City of Jackson might poke its nose in your "business" and try to put ad valorem tax on your tools (as equipment) and make you get a privilege license or tell you can't run a business out of your house in a residentially zoned district. Not trying to be a wet blanket, but they sort of need money for roads and sewers and general working systems and such...

I'll keep a low profile, and just go from there. My fancy lawyer (who owes me big time for car and home repairs I do for him) will have to work some magic if that time ever comes.

Luckily, Fondren is literally filled with people operating small businesses out of their homes, so I know I am surrounded by others just like me, and I know they aren't getting hassled too bad either. I think keeping things small and only out of my garage will help things for sure.

Nice article. Good to see ambitious people doing their thing.

Every once in a while a customer will call and say "Hey, I got this XXXX; it's just sitting in my garage taking up space--You want it?" I usually say yes too; last week, someone gave me perfectly good Craftsman mower that starts on the first pull. He had bought his wife a new Honda, and didn't want to fool with trying to sell it, so he just gave it to me. Pretty cool guy.

But this week takes the damn cake!!!

I got a call yesterday. "Hey, I got this XXXX; it's just sitting in my garage taking up space--You want it? It started up last time we tried it; should just need a new battery."

Here's what that XXXX was:

BOOM BABY!

This is a 500.

My uncle used to have one. No idea how much work it will take.

My Troy Bilt 22ec had started acting up. You pretty much have to keep it on full throttle while running the edger or blower attachments. It also will die unless you keep on the throttle periodically. The spark plug looked bad and it looked like oil had leaked out of it so I replaced the plug and made sure the air filter was clean. It still is having issues. I guess it could be old gas/oil mix but it was ethanol free gas. I have so many attachments I hate to switch brands but it is annoying to spend $100 bucks every 2 years on a new one. Husqvarna works with the trimmer plus so I may make the switch to it.

@AndyO78FJ40 Sounds like a light cleaning of the carb would be helpful, though not entirely necessary. My guess is that the carb needs to be adjusted.

Ideas on why a lawnmower would overheat and shoot gas out of the cap? Oil is good and blade is sharp.

Too much gas... lol

You need a new gas cap; sounds like your gas cap vent it shot.

As to overheating--when was the last time you checked/replaced your oil? Do the RPMs sound high when you run it?

This only happens after mowing the front yard and about 2/3 to 3/4 of the back yard. At this point the gas tank is about 1/2 full. It begins to run rough and gas begins shooting out of the cap vent holes at the slightest movement of the mower. Oil was changed and gas run dry at the end of mowing season last Oct. Oil level confirmed before each use. RPMs are normal. There is no throttle adjustment. It's on or off.

What brand of mower and brand of engine?

That is a very strange thing; I have never heard of that happening before.
