Allllright. The time has come to put my fj40 back together. I ran an h41 and complained about it not being geared low enough like a fool. I bought an sm465/advance adapter/ and 3 speed case with a stiffener plate. These things need to go into my 40. I also have a 60 series steering gear box, and I'm getting gabes 60 series axles from him. I plan on flipping my springs around for some wheelbase stretch and leaving them spring under. Has anyone do style sm465 swap? Does anybody know anyone I could have put that combo together for me?

Basically I have alot of work to do and not as much time, so i figure I can sub some of it out (pay) to have it done.

you ran an H41 or H42..... the H41 has a 4.9 first gear the H42 is 3.55

the H41 is pretty low

And as far as doing the work, Marshall could prob. help you out :D

I had an h41. Had the h42 first and smoke tons of clutch. Then went h41 and thought it wasn't enough....6.5 to 1 ought to be plenty. It's really that guy from Atlanta fault with the green fj with an sm420. His truck go slow slow. Some buddies have suggested a few OffRoad shops but I rather a cruiser guy do it. Paging marshal!

yeah 6.5 to 1 is stupid low for sure. What size tires are you running?

Have you considered throwing an Orion t-case behind that H41? That would be an easier swap and you'd have a somewhat useable first gear for driving around town.

An Orion and h41 would be my dream setup, however it seems Orion's have been discontinued and are quite pricey. They are up in 5.3 swap price territory. Through crafty spending I ended up in the sm465, adapter and case combo for only a few hundred bucks. I'm pretty nervous about how much I will like It on the street...but we shall see. I've had a few blazers with sm465s and a few fords with np435s and they were ok.

Sounds good, thanks marshal

the 465 has a useable first gear...... its just called second :D

its essentially a three speed and you should be good on the road unless you want to top 65/70
it gets kinda loud. The larger tires are nice to keep the rpms down on the hwy. Ive been dd'ing the sm420 for a couple years and expect the 465 to be about the same though ive heard its more driveable. I just hope it doesnt leak and whine...... should know soon.

I know that 40 you speak of :D it is slow for sure. and seems to fall over a lot

the 60 axles are 4' ? wider than 40 series or just 2''?

3 inches wider I believe. Does that happen to be your 40? I love that thing. We followed it around at tellico once when my 40 was yellow. And my brother rode in it on upper 2.

Here's what mine looks like now, sans the winch and some scratches.

Nope...... not mine. Followed it around at tellico as well a couple times.

Looking good there. You will love that low/low off road.
