The seal housing arrived from Front Range, so these pictures are more for me to remember what I did. Most of you guys aren't going to go through all this baloney for a full float rear axle. Here's the spindle with the brass bushing we all know from the front axle which you need because of the birfield joint.
It gets pressed in there.
On the rear full float axle you don't need that bushing ( Thanks J Mack! ), instead you can put a seal there to stop the axle oil from ruining your day. Front Range sells a housing for that seal.
Then the seal. I have that same seal installed in the axle tube by the pumpkin, so now I have two seals per side to stop the oil from creeping out into the wheel bearings and brakes.
I believe Jim took it one step farther and machined out the spindle for the seal alone, making it a cleaner install.

Here's a couple of parts I'd like to mention, so I can look them up later. These wheel bearing seals came from @orangefj45 and so far I like them over the old type seal. The new type seal is on the right. You'll have to ask Georg about about fitting a 55, but I think they are the same as the others, 40, 60, etc.

One other thing that came from Cruiser outfitters is the hub nut kit. I've always bought those pieces separate and sometimes the quality was lacking. This kit seems to be of high quality stuff and easy to order.

Here's what I've been waiting for since Oct. last year. Those are chromoly with a black oxide coating.
Here are the numbers if you're building a FJ60 full float axle. D15757 for the long shaft and D15756 for the short side.
I put together the short side this morning and it all went back together nice, on to the driver's side. One step closer to the Pig Party!

OK Scrapps look at the "bump" in my axle that the seal rides on, not only is that section raised to the correct diameter for the seal but it's polished too.

Ok, so I looked at mine and there are no raised or polished areas. The seal fits nice on the shaft as is, but not polished. They made them the same as my other ones and I don't remember any raised areas there either. This might be a problem.

Thinking your seals are a different size than mine?
Your seals will like it better if they are riding a smooth surface.

True dat! I measured the shaft at 1.290 and the inner seal at 1.250, so @40 thousand, what do you think, ok?
I think seals are designed to operate within a range, pull the number off that seal and post it here and I'll help you look it up or call the place you got it from and ask them.

EDIT... On the paperwork I have it says Shaft Dia. 1.280, so I'm guessing my 1.290 is pretty close.
