According to wiki that means your FJ weighed about 2,200 to 2,300 pounds more than stock - that seems like quite a lot of added weight!

haha yea. I plated the front half of the frame with 3/16" for rigidity, internal cage, cowl forward of the body I replaced with high tensile 1/8" steel, front and rear steel bumpers, 1/4 skids from front to back, removed transmission crossmember added two of my own of 1/2' steel, tummy tucked so frame rails were the lowest point, winch, dual battery, RTT, rack, 20 gal of water, 35 gal of fuel, 10 lbs of propane, tent heater, hot water heater, 34 muds, dana 60 in the back, fridge, enough food and clothes for a week, camera equipment, two adults and a kid. Yea not hard to load one down, but again, I didn't have a Toyota frame, suspension components of any kind, brakes, or half the drivetrain components, so I felt pretty safe in it, just got too small, wait till you see my 200 when i'm done with it. CAT scale already put it at 8700 from my last trip, muhahahhaha! In a couple weeks I'll be reinforcing the front lower control arm to frame area.

Ok sorry for diverting the tread, my vote for sliders is the White knuckles, after seeing those pictures of the mounting design and the availability for a kicker and DOM, pshhh, i'm sold. Anyone want to buy my Slee sliders?

Here's an interesting look at side-impact protection in rally cars.

If the g-force argument is taken too far...then you'd want NO protection on the sides so as not to heighten g-forces.
But clearly, side protection is needed as they note that intrusion into the cockpit would have been the killer (see end of article).

Anyway... This is an interesting read:

Key point... Have a look at the second paragraph:

I've enjoyed reading all y'all's thoughts here.
It's a good thing I'm not left with only the thoughts in my own brain... :)

If you plan on driving just on road then forget sliders and don't get them for side impacts. If you plan on wheeling get them so the below doesn't happen to you. Off road protection is the only reason to get sliders not on road.

Front and rear bumpers help with On road protection. There is a thread somewhere where my daughter was at a stoplight in my 80 and two cars slammed into each other and hit my 80 leaving only paint scrape yet totaling the car that hit it. Of course that was hard bolted to the frame not like the crumple guards are now.

I also know a person who hit a horse on the highway and just had to hose off his bumper. That's why they are called roo-bars in Australia

You guys are scienceing to much out of this. If you plan to wheel definitely get them, if not pass. The damage below is expensive to fix and can be much worse preventing the door from opening. They also provide a high lift point and make offroading easier in some cases allowing you to pivot on a rock on your slider

Not to be confused with Rock Slide Damage Protection:

Rocker panel repair is very expensive and very time consuming to do it properly. The previous owner of the BMW I'm restoring decided to jack the car up on the rocker, it made my body shop guy a nice payday.

So basically stock huh? Makes sense now!

I'm purchasing WKO. I can drive to pick them up. I like they way they look and I'll save $$$$ on shipping from Colorado to California. If you like'em. Run'em. That's all I got to say about that.
I do, I did. :)

Trail Tailor.... I keep going back to these as I like this look the best? Still make these?
I have them on my LC. They are very nice. TT can make the top plate pretty much to your liking. Very happy with mine. My 5,4,2.5 boys like them as well

Nice long read.

I got the Slee units on my 200. They’re untested as of now. CM2019 is coming soon, tho.
