Got my Rough Stuff FF centered rear housing takes 9 1/2 " E Lock. Front is in process for cut and turn keep playing around like this and I might have it on wheelz before I know it. Man they great work...

Looks like I will be taking a road trip to look over a 45 bed that is for sale in Montana. Ya I am excited to finally be getting one after a long wait. Yes it will need work, after all it is 51 years old. In the process I will size it down to fit the new requirements of the wheel base I have with the extended cab and do repairs and replacement of needed sheet metal. Anyhow the plan is to get started early tomorrow. Having my friend co drive so it will be a quick continuous trip. Pics to follow as we get going.

what does a bed sell for?
I've built beds for 49-53 Chevy pickups, Model A pickups, and Studebaker pickups... flat side pickup bed sides don't take much to fabricate and don't really cost a ton (call it $500-$700 for the basic layout, shear, and form). Just a option for you....

Ya I have considered to do that but want it to look more original so as we say it, got to pay for the parts. I will be updating it and also fitting it to my needs. total length will be 67" vs I believe 86" tailgate as well as the upper sides have some factory forming so you only live once. no worries, just stating options. I don't do them anymore, but it's really not that hard to do (if you are a sheet metal shop), that said, Montana is a great place to get projects.

Had to can the Montana trip yesterday had fuel line problems with the new lift pump on the D3500 all fixed now and prepping to leave early Friday morning. Those air dog lift pumps sure work good smoothed out the 5.9. Getting excited to take a look at the new to me 45 bed in Montana. Last piece of major sheet metal that I will have to buy, now the project will be complete.

Anyhow a few pics of the loading up and travels home through Yellowstone park with my partner in crime Gerald. Now the work begins.

Pretty country. My wife has been bugging me about deciding where we'd like to retire (mind you, this is 20 years from now) - and I suggested Montana... I like it there.

Glad you enjoyed the park, it's a pretty special place... One of my guide buddies out of Idaho saw my(your) box go by on your rig... Ha! I've got the rest of the rig on Ebay for the next few days and updated my thread in the 45's section. On ebay it's listed at just under 4700. If that ad ends the price will be less the standard fees they charge, pushing it towards 4500.

You Know Rob your 45 is in great shape not a bunch of rust, a fellow mudder out there that is looking for a project should jump on this one, anyone out there that is thinking of that give me a hollar I will verify the condition.

in the process of moving after 27 years in one spot. Will be building a new shop 24x36 as soon as the escrow closes and believe me it will be nice to get back working on the project. I found stuff I didn't even know I had so I guess it is a good thing to purge through your stuff.

Finally after some time getting to build my shop at my new residence. It will be 24x34x10 16' roll up. Permit is going to be issued Thursday or Friday cement work starts Saturday. Wow this has been an experience as I lived in another county previously so it was a learn as you go. My goal is to be in by Thanksgiving or there a bouts. All contractor help is scheduled and waiting for the on switch. It sure will be nice to get back on the 40-45 this down time had been killing me as all my stuff is in two 20" containers.

when I built my pole barn, the only thing that surprised me was how much moisture the concrete off-gassed for the first year. I live in Seattle, and I think I'd have been better off, rust-wise, to have left everything outside...

I ran a dehumidifier in mine to keep rust down. Make sure you run lots of power. I first ran #6 (60A) then later changed it to 100A #3 wire. Would have been better to do it once properly.

Didn't realize that much moisture would come off. I am in northern cal going into the wet season. Will be prepared for that, be sure to have metal prep on all my bare metal. And yes I am bringing in a 100A panel you can never have enough power with your shop. TNX guys for your input will take all the advice I can get to make this a smooth transition.

Looks like its going to be a real nice shop Skip.

If I were to build a shop I'd put in twice as many power outlets as I think I needed, three times as many lights as think I needed, and a giant exhaust fan that could move more air than a stadium full of junior high school kids.

TNX for your input, I have planed for plenty of 110/220 plugs to keep my stuff working. However I didn't think of the exhaust fan, a good idea especially if you are welding and want to get rid of the smoke or other fumes that might get created. I am going to see what is available on the net. Best
