Being able to see is huge! Was struggling to learn tig and then took my contacts out, put on my glasses, and darkened my helmet. What a difference!
Of course, no where near 47coe’s weld quality!

Al of those above are important as I get older my eyesight is not as good as it was but i keep trying.

I wear 2.0 readers when doing detail work or reading.

I have 3.0 for welding (and it still isn't pretty but at least I can see it)

OK I will play. I two am a bugger welder biggest issue is seeing. my glasses are progressive no good, so I got some with the hole lens that is my reading prescription that way no mater where I'm looking through the hood I can see clearly. Then I mounted a light to my hood. This has helped tremendously, I also like to put a work light on my work.
The machine plays a big part in the welds. I run a old school Miller Matic 250, think dials setting make a big difference, if you have a newer machine this is not as important.
You will not get the same looking welds with a Mig as you can get with a Tig. I'm pretty sure some of the welds I see here are Tig

You are supposed to be able to see through your mask? I must have been welding blind. I got replacement shields last week and I finally put a new one in today. Wow. How cheap am I.

The shields that I got were $1 each on Amazon. I have a lifetime supply now.

lol! Thx. I will say also that the Optrel 2.0 helmet was a game changer. Because you can REALLY see the weld and keep track of the puddle. No desire to use a green lens again

Thursday I did a bit of work on the Pakistan windshield with the safari kick out windows. In earlier posts it is shown installed. The charge of the day was to install the wipers that I had from a 72 tub had to do some mods to get it to install and work, done.
Then to check for fitment just time to do some minor mods not much in the way. However the big part was to match the tub defrosters vents from the tub and cut the slots and match it to the wind shield opening’s.
pics below 1- showing the defrosters in the tub 2-showing the slots in the bottom of the tub wind shield and 3-showing the final hole coming out of through the lower windshield to the glass. It took a bit of attention measure 3 times and only one chance to cut once, turned out good. Next to work on the fiberglass top an do a final fit to the drip rail.
rear ends are down at Georg’s in Stockton getting the final assembly after powder coating. Have
M-300 axels from RCV he is installing and giving his blessing.

Where has this build been in my life? Any updates in the last 6 ish months?

I am now doing a very similar cab stretch using butchered 40 hard top parts and will have a very similar shortened popout window like yours. By the looks of it I will end up with about the same amount of stretch. Having Bud from BudBuilt bend up some 3/16 corners for me. I am also now falling in love with the stylesides more and may see if Kevin can make me some side blanks to sell with a tailgate. I may shoot for something like this:

Coincidentally, I am also putting in a 606... I did not catch in my read through or searching, but what transmission are you going to run? I am torn between the 722.6 NAG1 auto adapted to the split case or an NV3550/NWF Black Box to split case. Luke from DPUK has a manual valve body in the works for the 722.6 but could be years out.

I have an X15 and a gear duel case from marlin crawler, we have many things the same. My 606 is set for about 325 hp and 5/600 pounds of torque

Thought I would share the process of the top and how I came up with my top build. I started with a 79 top so I could have the kick out window just behind the B pillar and make it opening for extra air to come through the cab. The pics will pretty much enplane the process as to the construction of the top. so here we go.

Question for you. How wide did your pop out window end up (on the inside bead) after shortening? It's about 6.75" originally, and I am looking at taking out a bit over 3 inches and wondering how that will compare. Just eyeballing it, looks to be close to what you took out. I was able to remove 2.5" from between the pop out window and rear curved window. Thanks
