I gotcha western flyer, I will be ordering some caps soon to keep in the glove box as spares.

Thanks for help - power seats work again!

Thanks to all who contributed to this thread. If not for your insights and suggestions, I probably would have gone along with my mechanic's original suggestion for fixing my stuck power seats: rip them out and replace them with seats from a junked Land Cruiser.

Instead, I ordered a pair of the suggested Gamiviti parts, provided my mechanic with the URLs for this and one other thread about fixing stuck seats and let him have a go at it. He wound up using the parts to fix both power seats, which had been stuck all the way forward. He charged me three hours at $80/hour. The seats work beautifully. It's a relief to be able to move them in both directions again.

Any Land Crusher owners in Houston who want to bring the same problem to my mechanic, his name is Doug Tees, owner of Auto ExperTees, 1607 N. Main St., Houston.

Thanks for the tip on this.
2 min. PM with a mirror and a penny!

Very useful info. My passenger seat acted like it wanted to move back, but there was resistance. I noticed that plug was GONE. I got on this forum and searched this, and a user posted that he took his plug from the drivers seat, and installed it on the passenger cylinder. (I used a penny to screw it in) it was sort of difficult, and i had to force the seat back with my legs a little, but I got it back in a good position.

x2 on Gurney's comment. Thanks for this intel.

After years of having a stuck passenger seat at a decent spot, I never really cared to see what the problem was. I took seat off today and sure enough the plastic Philips head cover is missing.. So I ordered the gear and cover from www.gamiviti.com and I hope to finally fix this after about 3 years!

My drivers seat got stuck in the forward most position....it's was late at night and figured I'd check it out the next day ...did a search on Mud and found this this thread. After work I open the door and there is the white cap.. I'm thinking this is to easy...
tighten it back in and seat still does not move... Only the inside rail is moving... So is the gear striped? I went ahead and ordered caps and gears last night

Guys, Like the other posts I have read, I too have to thank you all for all the info you posted...Just bought my first 1996 Land Cruiser. a week ago. I knew the seat motor wasn't working properly when I bought it (passenger and driver side)...took it down to my local mechanic and was quoted $600 per a seat for labor and parts (new OEM motor assembly). I was crushed and told him I could only afford to do one seat. He said he would order the parts in the morning. I went home and tried to search for another motor for the passenger side. That's when I stumbled onto this thread. I forwarded the Gamiviti site and this thread link to him and I'm proud to say the mechanic called and said, "That was a great find". This thread spelled out my exact problem..the stripped gear and missing cap. I just registered so I could say, Thank you all!!!

All - So I've read many threads about fixing the front DS and PS power seats, and went ahead and just ordered replacement gears for both from Gamviti as the symptoms I'm having are the same as most: Seats move all the way up, won't move back.... So, in the meantime, can someone tell me how to manually move the DS seat all the way back?? The seat is stuck so far forward that I can't even drive my 80 to move it and it's blocking my wife's car in the driveway, help!

Thanks!

Per previous post on first page-
"I've been thru this twice. The first time I put the plug back in & everything worked fine. I found the plug in the floor about a year earlier but didn't know what it was for. Luckily I kept it. The second time my passenger seat got stuck even though the plug was still in place. Just wanted to mention the seat can be adjusted from the front of the seat. Remove the plastic panel then turn the bolt heads. I manually moved the back. The kids have been told not to move it forward again."

drove about 50 miles on dirt and rock roads in Big Bend National Park, all types of screws came loose, this one included. Thanks for the info you saved me from ripping the seats out completely.

So.....like many here I suffered the stuck passenger seat dilemma and found redemption right here. As I still had the little whit nut it was a 2 minute fix! In effort to make sure the driver side does not do the same I moved the seat up to better reach the white plastic nut. Now IT IS StUcK!!!. I've removed and replaced the infamous white plastic nut to no avail. I'm 6'1" and I can't even get into the drivers seat to take it to my local shop. Any advice here? Felling a little desperate right now.

Ran my PS all the way forward today to vacuum rear seat area, and wouldn't go back. Found the white cap, had to install and take it out several times before seat finally moved in reverse. Looks like I'm going to have to regrease the gears though, as they barely moved. Thanks to this thread I didn't go nuts trying to find where the cap went. Quick hint, use your cell phone camera on main screen and lean against the trans tunnel to get a perfect view of the opening it goes into without removing the seat.
