Thanks to all who contributed to this thread. If not for your insights and suggestions, I probably would have gone along with my mechanic's original suggestion for fixing my stuck power seats: rip them out and replace them with seats from a junked Land Cruiser.
Instead, I ordered a pair of the suggested Gamiviti parts, provided my mechanic with the URLs for this and one other thread about fixing stuck seats and let him have a go at it. He wound up using the parts to fix both power seats, which had been stuck all the way forward. He charged me three hours at $80/hour. The seats work beautifully. It's a relief to be able to move them in both directions again.
