Well, I don't drink beer, so I don't know of any bars and such here, but I do know some good places to eat.

Shoot, I'll need someone to have a couple   with while they install my junk. Living the life of the garage-less is kinda annoying!

What do you need to have installed? I installed the springs in my driveway. I am not sure that the garage would have worked due to how high it is when on the jack stands, not to mention a lack of room :-).

I installed the lift in a friends driveway. I live in an apt. with underground parking. No driveway, no lift, nowhere to put a press even if I bought one and returned it two days later...

Anyway, all I need is caster correction bushings installed right now...

I will let you know how it goes with MAF since I am planning on going there very soon. It seems like there should not be any issues.

I looked at HF and the press H frame, not A (as suggested) is $250, so that route is not cheap unless you can return it afterwards, which is not really ethical unless there is a problem with it (other than HF selling cheap stuff, which is known). I don't think it is all that big, so it would fit in the back of your Cruiser, or you could leave it at my house :-).

I got the caster correction done by MAF. My Cruiser is back to how it used to drive, the wandering is gone now. Well, wandering is not quite accurate, it just was not as stable as before. Quite nice and I am glad that I got it done.

I got to MAF around 8:30am, they open at 8am. They were just getting the vehicles out of the shop (slow start on Monday?). While I was told that it would take 2 hours, it actually took around 3, in part because they did not get started right away. The actual time to do it would be more like 1.5 hours or less. This is one issue which they should learn about which is setting false expectations, which was more of an issue since I was waiting (I did learn a few things about large trucks which I did not know, watching them work).

It seems like there is really only one mechanic, although perhap normally Robert also does work, but it seems he had to go somewhere. Clearly MAF is not a high volume place.

I did talk to Al for a bit and he seems like a nice guy and he seems to be trying to make improvements.

Overall, it worked out well, but I think that if I were to have to do it again I would just leave the vehicle and come back later. The price was the best that I could find and I have no issues with the work performed. They do have a "lunch room" that you can wait in, but that is best to avoid (dark and not much air flow and the seats are horrible, the seats in the parts area is MUCH nicer), a chair is a better option to sit under a nearby tree. I would recommend them, with the warning about the timeframe not being accurate. The best thing to do is to find something else to do (there is a bus line nearby, which is free to the Metrolink Station, in case you want to go away).

Dude .. it's a shop. What did you expect .. :princess: :princess:

Hey, I am just letting people know. I expect that if the place says that it will take 2 hours, that they will get it done in 2 hours.

As to the lunch room, I suspect in part it is to keep people from staying in there a long time :-). Again, just a warning. There was a TV there, but I did not try it. Basically what I was trying to say was that most likely you would not want to wait there and should seek other options.

Well, if I'm told to have my junk there at a specific time, and I've told them I'll be waiting, I would expect any shop to do the courtesy of starting the work on time. I don't expect a day-spa waiting room or anything, you're right, it's a shop. But schedules are schedules and time is money!

YUP! That is what it boils down to!

Personally, if I owned the place I would trash all the chairs in the room, perhaps either burning them or running them over. I don't expect a day spa either, but I would also be concerned about lawsuits :-). One set of lights did not work and so it was a bit dark, there was a broken chair on the far side. I did not try one of the chairs, but the one that I did was not great. I ended up going outside and sitting under a tree. The reason for my mentioning it is so that others don't consider that as an option, It is nice that it is there and they will let you use it, I just wouldn't.

This borderlines chit chat!

Actually if this was posted in chit chat, it might even be moved to "Useless Ramblings" :D

All in good fun! :D

Chit chat yup ..

I'm sitting here looking pretty perplexed .. like WTF???

It's a shop .. I don't think I've ever been to a shop that immediately worked on my junk when I pulled up. There are always going to be unexpected goings on on the job ahead of yours ..

On the flip side, what if they ran into a problem with you work order, but kicked it out the door at the alloted hour becase the next giy pulled up .. though yours wasn't quite done yet.

If I take my s*** to a shop, I take something to read .. or my laptop .. or walk over to a mall and kill time. I would never think of bitching .. probably because I know the guys are doing their best, and respectfully give them their space. I leave them my cell and ask them to give me a ring when they're done. Oh, and you're gonna hate this .. I even walk in with coffees and donuts at some of the shops I attend. Talk about counter productive ..

Don't get it ...

Tyler, the issue is if you say that it is going to take a certain amount of time, then it should take that or don't say it. I am not saying it to "bitch", but to let others know, if they go there, to not expect the timeframe which they are told, that simple.

Yes, they are doing their best, but there is also the aspect on the other side of people making plans and needing to be somewhere. If the place said that it would take 1 hour, I might wait, if they said that it would take 4 then I would not. I can only make plans when I am given accurate information. Live and learn. Next time I go there I will assume it will take longer than they say and plan accordingly, which is why I am telling others, so that they can make plans with that in mind.

What part of that don't you get????

Your attitude ..

When my own local Toyota dealership went to install my OME lift, my ex and I drove up to pick it up later that day ... the manager saw us and came out of the building , and across the lot to us . It's going to take till tomorrow now .. it's not like a tundra like we envisioned (they don't fix a lot of 80's at all .. its a Canukian thing) .. we all laughed and drove back home .. no biggie.

Maybe I needed to be there , but a matter of one hour ?

I don't even know what we're debating here .. you feel one way, and do business one way, and I obviously do it differently some of the time .. I guess I can't help but see it from the other side .. partly because I can think of SO many times where an install guy has gone beyond the call for me and my junk. A suspension install carying on into another day (they started late in the day) but charging me for what they quoted ! A Viper alarm install swapping in a new antenna etc 2 or 3 times on the spot .. no appt. The head installer giving me his HOME phone # when I headed out to BC for the summer in case I had any questions/problems .. Toyota dealership shootin the s*** with me and all the guys hangin after work to wash my truck and talk ..a minute lube spending time thawing our my entire windshield washer system because I was a dumbass and forgot to change over to winter fluids early on , another minute lube place fixing some crap on my step sons car so it could be safetied .... same place offering to let me work on my junk in their carwash bay any time I wanted .. and the list goes on. I don't get that treatment by being there in there face .. or critizing their digs.

Just roll with it dude ... one day you'll be happy they save your ass .

My attitude? I am just mentioning that the time that they say is not what it takes so that others know, it is called information and a warning to others. I said it so that people can properly plan when going. I said that in the future I would just plan on dropping it off. If I had counted on the time and had to be someplace or do something, then it would have been a problem.

The hour was an example, not what they quoted, it did not apply to that.

I am not sure of why you are going on about it or why you are making it a bigger deal than it is. Don't you want to have more information? Wouldn't you like to know that if you take your vehicle to a place that it will actually take longer than they say? In this case, had I know how long it was going to take I would have just made plans to drop it off and pick it up later, which would not have been an issue at all.

I know that there are others who are thinking of going there and just wanted them to know so that they could plan their day, otherwise I would not have mentioned it. Overall, I am happy with their service and they had the best price I could find too.

This should sum it up!

I know, I know, its NOT PC, but hey, its all in good fun!

Lets get back on base here! The bushings are in, all is well, end of story!! Now we know MAF installs them, lesson learned.

I highly doubt others need to be told it MIGHT take longer then usual, unless of course, you are the guy in the above picture! :D

Just an FYI for the future: Pretty much ANYTHING that involves manual labor is hard/impossible to pinpoint an exact timeline! Especially with automechanics and modifying rigs. There are too many variables and unknowns!
