hehe I don't think I could afford any rings from hotlanta......... you guys price of living is a little bit higher than mine here in good ole pendleton :grinpimp:

I did spend most of today hitting all the jewerly stores here in disgusta ga......... and I have come to learn that diamonds basically boil down to A LOT OF CASH FOR A LITTLE STONE

I mean I am essentially trading my landcruiser for for alittle piece of rock I must have lost my mind......... I am feeling 40 withdrawls already setting in

go to a wholesaler...you need to be schooled.

Yeah but can you really put a price tag on Mary Ellyn's happiness... ;) haha anyways great to hear about your 40.

I think thats better stated as can you really put a pricetag on your own health, safety, and well being and on having a house to come back to in 9 months.

Sorry to join this conversation so late. I have recent experience with this. Dan is right, find a wholesaler. I used one and it saved me about 15% and I didn't get the sleazy car salesman routine with the wholesaler. Bad sign if the jeweler doesn't want to get you a loupe to look at the stone up close. I encountered one retailer like that...run for the door with hand firmly on wallet.

GREAT NEWS GANG looks like the cruiser gods have answered my prayers!!!!

THE 40 WILL BE STAYING IN THE CLUB

I couldn't just let JP put the truck on Ebay...:). This is a perfect truck for me to transplant my 9+ year 40 build that seems to be an endless project. Thanks to JP for pulling all the pictures together.

haha yeah thats what i was trying to say.

What the heck is a loupe? I looked at them under a microscope in several stores pretty crazy what you can see then. I'm happy with the one I bought, I imagine Katie will be too whenever I give it to her.

As for the 40 the actual purpose of the thread, I can't wait to see it out on the trails with the club once again. I have some good memories riding shotty and a few not so good like sitting upside down and driving home with no windshield it'll be good to see someone else continuing to treat it right.

http://www.solomonbrothers.com/ is where I bought Renee's way back when, they are in Buckhead and have there own mines. I've also heard good things about http://www.bluenile.com/
I was living in Alabama back then and had it shipped so no sales tax.

If you know what size, etc. look and compair pricing with what your local jewlers have.

About 2 years ago, I bought my wife's loose diamond off the internet, I think it was from http://www.overnightdiamonds.com It was the best price I was able to find. When I called to talk to them, I talked directly to the owner and it was a very smooth process. Exactly as they described it.

BTW, Congrats on the sale of the 40. Would have loved to have it, but the whole baby thing set that back...

diamond hi-jack again...

JP, here's the broker I used. They are in ATL, so not so convenient for you. But they are straight shooters. You get exactly what you pay for and they will work with your budget, educate you and sell you the best possible stone you can afford. This link actually takes you to the education page on their site. The rep I dealt with said there are really only 3C's that should guide your purchase: Color(50%), Cut(30%) and Clarity(20%). The size of the rock should not be the determining factor for purchase price. If a salesman leads you to believe that, then he is selling you a rock with defects in the first three C's.

Read and be informed, no matter who you buy from.

These guys also appraised the ring for me & forwarded the appraisal to my insurance company, so it was already insured when I picked it up.

A loupe is a magnifier (usually 10-12X) you hold up to your eye. It sorta looks like a shot glass.

Microscopes work just as well, but you can't drink tequila out of 'em. ;)

Oh got you, yeah microscope is the same thing. One thing I found at least as far as emerald cuts were concerned is the girdle. The girdle is the place where the facets on the top meet the facets on the bottom/sides. You can go up to a slightly thick or moderately thick girdle without any difference in the look or reflectivity but it drops the price some.

outstanding JP. I am so glad it is staying in house. and good luck on the ring purchase.
