Surgy idle in CT. I’ll feed and offer beer. Seriously at my wits end and would imagine a fresh set of eyes would figure it out fast.
Rebuilt Aisin carb, recurved diz, brand new vacuum adv pot, machined manifolds, top end w/ all new valves and seals, full desmog running both VCVs and violet bvsv, AC completely d/c’d, charcoal canister cut and refilled, yada yada.
I feel quite sure the surging was even before the top end.

Yes ‘87 60. Interesting. Last night I was going to take it for a test run (recently gave in and installed a remflex gasket to the manifold to head) and when I stepped on the clutch (no brake) it stalled right out.

If my mounts were shot that would cause my leaf springs to get shoved out to the far edges of the hangers?
I pulled the cotter pin to the throttle linkage on the side of the carb and got little response.
And I’ve got a remflex for a manifold gasket and already feel I’ve tightened it past what’s recommended.
This truck is steadily killing my good attitude. I’m not far from putting it to the side of the road.

Water in a squirt bottle, spray mist around d carbbase, intake, vaccum lines, dizzy pot. Or wd40. Listen for idle change. Do this runnin
You changed a lot of gaskets on intake side....carb...check sides, throttle rod, etc. Plugged ports n whatnot
You'll get it, you're right there.
check all vac line ends if reused any.they crack and get hard and don't seal....better yet go all new.
Take it for couple warm up runs, cool. Tighten.
Bet carb. Or lines. Check intake manifold with mist while running.
Broken moun t shouldn't cause that on a 60

I hate writing the words but it’s the fing manifold to head. It’s still leaking. Carb spray brings it right up. I’ve had it apart more times than I want to say. All vac lines are brand new silicone.
^^^^ thanks Kina, I’m just burned out.

Yeah, that's never fun to redo, and redo...e
Two Factory Metal Gaskets Does The Trick whoa cool capitals wierd..

Or, go to napa, get can of copper gasket maker, apply liberally to all surfaces, mate.dry.enjoy.

When I used the Remflex for mine, with the same issue, I only tightened it to specs from the FSM and never touched it again. They are pretty thick so it should seal any leak if something is not perfect. Where are you seeing the change in idle spraying it? Do you have the stock exhaust manifold? is it happening below the carb? I have read many articles of the intake being cracked from heat from the exhaust manifold where they meet in stock set up. Very common area to be a small crack causing the issue.

It’s sucking between the manifold to the cylinder. I had the intake welded awhile back.
Just tried it again quick and rpms raise w/ carb spray. I’m just frustrated because it seems like no matter what I do it’s not right.
When the machine shop resurfaced the manifolds they did the end horns separate. And when I asked them to spot face the flanges I was told ‘oh you’ll be okay.’ So I’ve got a discrepancy on the ends. I cut a copper washer and filed it to fit on each end where the exhaust meets the intake flanges to even them up.
And I kept my old gaskets so I can inspect them and see right where my issues are... but chuckling, I still keep not quite getting it right.
I tell you, no one can fault me for not giving up.

Pls call Mike Dadja in dallas

He had a method to the manifold gasket that works very well. He used two gaskets. He did it for my friend and it solved his nagging issues similar to what you are dealing with. He will share his method. Nice guy.
Thank you. Yeah that’s the conclusion me and a local friend came up w/ today. We were able to determine its sucking about where the outer edges of the intake meet the exhaust. I had copper half washers on the intake side cuz it’s plain to the eye the flanges are different depths... we took them out just to see if they were actually hindering the snugness but w/o you can still see a gap under the bolts captive washer. So I’ll be doublling up and will use copper on both sides and hope at that point to call it done.
I’ll give that Dadja guy a call but looking at the link I imagine he’s not avail today to chat so I’ll ring him tmrw. I really appreciate you jumping in here on my thread and speaking up from so far away.
Graciously,
Felicity

Just returning the favor. You made yourself available when I had some issues.

Ah! I remember now. We spoke huh? Valve adjustment right? Good lord, did I really help?

Beauty of this site.

I wish I had some words of wisdom for you, Fel but you have reached the point where you know what needs to be done as well as (or better than) anybody on here. Maybe try a remflex or double up the gaskets and crank it back down and see what happens. I feel for you. It sucks to try so hard to do things the right way by not cutting corners and still have problems.

Don't worry about the springs. It's just the bushings. That can be done later. It'll go for years like it is.

Hey Dave, thanks. Always appreciate seeing you speak up. Yeah is a thing that’s made me crazy. I do believe I’m going to double up and add some copper permatex as well as much as it’s not the ‘right’ way, I need it on and done.
It pains me to look at her sitting in the driveway undriven. My kid needs me to get this going! Seeing the smile on my friends face yesterday the couple times he started it up was utterly priceless. Talk about feeling good about what I’ve accomplished w/ my hands and the guidance of mud. It’s huge! Thank you all.
