Has anyone delved into replacing or repainting our seatbelt? Only one of the buckles in the back seat doesn't work and one of them looks like an older GM replacement. Maybe its the GM replacement that doesn't work....I dont remember. Nevertheless, can the old worn and faded straps be replaced? Any lines on buckle replacements?

I cam across this in a search, but was hoping to stay with OEM, but I know how hard that is with owning these trucks.

I was wondering the same thing most of my belts don't work.

I may be able to get one of the sew places to refurbish the old belts here let me make some inquiries.

I went through Seatbelts Plus as well. They fir nicely with the whole length and such but they are a real bummer as far as being incredibly touchy. They snagg with the least provocation. When someone who has not used them before gets in they think they are broken because the catch so much when they are trying to run it accross their chest.
PabloCruise have you noticed this?

alot of the upholstery shops won't touch seatbelts anymore due to liability. if your local interior guy will do it, don't kick the tires...

I have on hand 3 pointers and made sure to get the longer buckle side extension that mounts directly to the floor. (So it would reach up thru the front bench seat)
I have yet to install as I want to have a plan for the liner and means to address the rust in areas of the roof, before I install the top shoulder point in the pillar. If I get started sooner than later-I will post pics so others will know what not to do.! :D :D

I bought the same ones as Pablo. Yeah, they are a bit touchy. I'm thinking, hoping, they will mellow out after a while.

Yes, mine are "sensitive" as well.
When I put new belts from CCOT in my 40 they were like that, and drove me nuts! I called CCOT to complain and they said they would mellow out in time. Not sure if they were putting me off, but after a little while I feel like they did mellow out. Or I just got used to it?

Reviving this as I plan to add new seatbelts to my 55.

Ive used seatbeltplanet exclusively on the past 5-6 vehicles ive owned. I know there are cheaper options but the biggest selling point is the fact that they are one of the only companies that offer DOT certification FMVSS 209 and 302.

I never really had any "touchy" issues until my last set I purchased for the 60. After about a month of constant use they did mellow out a bit. Well mine went from 8-10 snags to get it clicked in to about 2 snags if I pulled the belt smooth. The passenger side on the other hand was never used enough so whenever I had a passenger they thought the belt was broken.

FWIW concerning OEM seat belts: I have my full set of OEM FJ40 seat belts (front & rear) at "Sharon's Web, Inc." to be re-webbed, the OEM tags reinstalled, retractors cleaned and the housings painted. I also asked her to leave the 'Toyota' insignia on the silver clickers unless she could replicate them. I found her name through the grape vine, and come to find out, she was the main seat belt guru for the leading classic car seat belt repair company for over 20 years.

The problem with my old seat belts were the inner plastic cams were busted into three pieces and the front belts were frayed. She had her helper reproduce these plastic cams on a 3D printer, so she will be able to have my '77 OEM set back working like new.

Note: I only post this for those who want their OEM belts repaired and reinstalled in their rigs, because there are many-many other less expensive options out there.

That is awesome! If anyone is really into the OEM 3-point retractable belts, let me know, I have a few that I would sell. I went with new belts and the wife would love if I cleared some crap out of the garage!

I figured I would put this info here for future reference if anyone is interested. I installed some retractable 3-point seat belts for the back seat.
Here's a few photos of what I did. The belts are from Seat Belts Plus. I also ordered their mounting hardware kit for the install.

I modified the seat brackets to accept the L-bracket that came in the kit, then simply drilled through the seat bracket and wheel hump, and then bolted everything down.

I had welded in some bolts on the pillar a while back in the event that I would ever want to install the 3-points in the future. However, with that location, there might be a rubbing issue with the belt and seat back with this set up. Time will tell if that is a good location or if it would have been better to have used the factory mount points that sit further back. I also had to drill another mount point under the seat near the doors. I was able to use the factory mount points for the female ends of the seat belts.
