First time Sandy has been driven since August for SAS. Feels good to have her back on the road. Slowly addressing the things that happened on the trip needing attention as I have time over the next few weeks.

Replaced my exhaust gaskets today that I had meant to do before my CO trip. Truck was really loud during the trip due to the gasket situation below...Glad to have that fixed.

The old ones were definitely shot. Pic of old gaskets...

That stretch across nothingness just outside of town was the worst part for me lol. Full throttle into the wind trying to stay above 60-65 😂
Sandy pulls better on the passes than most from my observations.

Water leak update. It still leaked...

I ended up prying around on the windshield gasket that I glued in on both sides when I put in my new headliner. I found 3 spots that had traces of glue but not enough to fully seal. 2 of which lined up with where the water was coming down the firewall. When I was gluing it initially, the plastic tip on the cartridge was bending and deforming as I was dragging it through the seal and likely didn't dispense enough in these 3 areas. Bought some more glue and filled in those areas and this morning I walked out to water pooling on the seal, which is a GOOD SIGN!

Hoping this fixes it. Still need to scrape off the excess...

You are leak testing it after putting the expansion strip in right? It will definitely leak without the expansion strip.

So, Sandy didn't blow up? I thought the engine was toast.

For everyone else not in the know. I forgot to change back my timing at the lower altitudes so Sandy was very peppy with too much timing until I realized in Tennessee. So many many miles on the highway pinging at full throttle. I drove it an hour this week to our monthly club meeting and she seems fine 👍

Oh jeez…

In a similar vein, don’t know if any of you recall, but when we reached camp after Creede on the way to SAS last year I was convinced I blew a head gasket and my trip was over. In the morning I limped it over to Casey for a look. While he and Tim were looking things over about to tell me I was f’ed I saw it… #5 plug wire was disconnected.

Easiest tune up ever.

You might want to get rid of the lock washers and nylon lock nuts. Lock washers will loose tension as they heat and cool and lock nut will melt over time. A stover nut or top lock mechancial nut and flat washers will be better over time. Good to see it going.

Agreed. I noticed this happened after my trip to the monthly meeting. Downside of using what I had on hand. I swapped them out for some flange nuts

It self healed.

Took the rear seats out to build out my platform to cover the second row to make sleeping easier and realizing I never have more than 1 person in the truck with me usually. Got the base laid on a spare set of rear seat mounts and it can tip up which is nice. Still trying to mentally lay out what all I want to put in there before I locate the walls. Plan now is to put a 5-10 gallon water tank in there, relocate the amp and subwoofer, and come up with a tool storage cubby to get my tools out of my rear drawer to keep that for camping supplies. Open to ideas as well.

It’s a work in progress.

Existing rear platform.

What seat cover on the driver seat?

I am about to embark on my rear storage and platform solution as well. However, I'll need to retain the bench seat for the kids and dog. I'll be using 1/2" baltic birch ply for almost everything, weight savings adds up and it is plenty strong. That is the only input I have.

My driver seat is a Bestop Trailmax II Pro which I cannot say enough good things about. Previously I had the SOR covers on all the seats which are nice tight covers with back pockets. Once I replace my passenger side seat with a matching Bestop seat, I'll sell those covers.

I copied my rear platform design from @GLTHFJ60 who went through 5-6 revisions of his before he landed on this one. It has served me well and fits my needs. One large drawer, flip top on the right side and fridge on the left. It's all 3/4" birch. I briefly had a 1/2" birch platform in my 100 with a center spine support but it still flexed more than I liked when crawling around on it or had heavier items on it.
