Stories already coming in about the scumbags in action. I know of at least 2 Superdutys stolen, hotel rooms broken into, vandalizing of chase vehicles etc. The guys who got their Superdutys stolen were filing a police report at the station and one of thier chase crew pulled up behind the stolen truck at a toll booth heading north. They called the guys at the police station to tell them and the cops wouldn't do a thing untill they "finished writing their report". Needless to say the thiefs got away. Mark Post in the Riviera trophy truck was leading overall coming back into Ensenada and the cops tried to pull him over 1 mile from the finish be cause he supposedly roosted a parked police car where the race went to the dirt from pavement. They are the ones who parked in the outside of a corner. Even so they could have taken it up with him after the race as he is so high profile and he would have gladly paid them for the damage but they tried to fxxx him over and keep him from winning. He didn't pull over untill he got around an attempted road block and crossed the finish line. Of course that pissed them off and they did the whole machismo guns drawn BS. I haven't heard the official outcome but I am sure they will get paid a tidy sum for thier "trouble".

Pretty sad how bad racers and crews are being treated these days, it keeps getting worse and worse. We were one of many hit at the 1000 last year and had a $5k parts box, gps, race radio and two spares stolen in less than 7 minutes. I am just about over it untill something is done. Unfortunately a true boycott to hit them in the pocketbook and make the authorities actually crack down would never happen. Even the damn cops are trying to rip us off.

This happens at every race and people are still morons with their rigs! If, you own a Super Duty, you know its the hottest item in Mexico, plain and simple! Put a kill switch on it, put the club on it. Of course theft sucks, but the fact is, that it WILL happen! Take precautions! I honestly have ZERO sympathy for some jackass that leaves a $45k super duty in downtown Ensenada unattended loaded with goodies, are you kidding?? You wont hear ANY stories of people getting their rigs stolen that have kill switches or clubs, thiefs only go after the easy targets and unfortunately, there are a TON out there!

were you watching a secret race? the one i was at ended in Santo Tomas! :flipoff2:

Not to sound like an ass, but what on earth are you doing leaving that stuff unattended? Cmon man! Its Mexico! You have to know that going in!

Whats really sad, is that people know this s*** happens and STILL leave s*** in the vehicles unattened! I wont go as far as saying its your fault, but i will go out and say that you shoulda known better!

Mo, i aint bashing ya man, but think about what your saying: You left valuable unattended in a poor country stricken by crime on the weekend that the majority of their income comes in for the YEAR and the thiefs are in full swing, what did you think would happen?

Sorry if i sound harsh, but cmon guys!

Why dont they just stop racing in mexico all together then.... fawk. What a joke.

You obviously havent been to a race and gotten bitten by the bug!

I agree, but there are more and more vehicles getting stolen, broken into, and vandalized that are in supposedly "secure" parking at well known hotels and beaches in the Ensenada area. This points to more insiders and more organized professionals getting involved and not just the opportunists anymore. I don't have sympathy for the idiots you mentioned, and there are alot, but I do for the racer that takes reasonable precautions and still gets jacked due to new tactics and players.

 I generalized. Touche. :D

True but the criminals are getting greedier and greedier, (I understand they do this by nature and that is what makes them criminals in the first place), the main problem is the authorities are largly unwilling and sometimes unable to do anything about it. I know you have seen as well as I have the change in crime associated with racers over the years. The natural progression is happening and I believe the next step is more violent theft which is eventually going to lead to someone getting hurt or killed. I think it is ridiculous not to put more pressure on the Mexican autorities to take reasonable precuations on thier end to keep things in check so that those of us that take reasonable precautions on our end can likely avoid a major theft.

Don't settle yourself short Kevin you are a tremendous ass! :flipoff2: (Caddy Shack) Seriously I agree. The parts box was in a rookie chasers truck in his first race with us who was getting the car off the line and heading over the 3 to pit the car south of San Felipe. Big mistake on our part. Unfortunately we had to give him one of the boxes with spare 930s, alternator and hubs among other things as he was going to be the only chase able to get to the car untill we picked it up around Puertocitos. None of us were surprised when we heard what happened. Our guy was getting the car off the line on foot and the truck was far enough away to get out of dodge quick and his co-pilot who was told to stay with the truck no matter what decided he could go get a few pictures of the cars coming off the line without holding up the chase. Dumbass didn't think, our loss. Like I said our mistake also. The issue has been addressed, along with alot of bagging on him:D , and he won't be entrusted with parts that significant for awhile.

I used to go to all the races dude. Actually had a wannabe pre-runner back in 1995.

LOL. Don't let all the talk scare you Alan, it is truly a minor quantity of events centered around the races themselves due to the above mentioned idiots and cubic dollars floating around. I have spent far more time just hanging out and exploring on non race days, which is almost all of them, and they are far and away a great and friendly people. Probably 95% or better of the bad stories one might hear are centered around tourist towns and americanized locales. When you are in the smaller towns you get the real "Baja". Don't give up. Perhaps an 80's trip will convince you down the road. ;)
