I got hired today part time at a skilled nursing facility in El Cajon. Our eventual plan is to move to SD once I get on full time.

My question is how is the traffic going south on the 15 from the inland empire in the morning and the afternoon?

pm TemeculaTim, he commutes from Temecula to Rancho Bernardo. That's a long drive from Redlands.

Tell me about it. I wouldn't do it if I didn't have a chance at more work in the very near future down there.

Depending on the time traffic can be pretty bad. I used to commute from Murrieta to Point Loma. I would leave the house at 4:30ish are get to work around 6-6:30, but that was before the express lane expansion. The afternoons back up a bit at the 15/215 split and can congest south out of Temecula for miles. Friday afternoons is the worst of the days... I would ride my motorcycle that day and would lane split from Fallbrook to Murrieta to save time.

It can be bad from the 78 in Escondido to the 52 from 6:30 to 8:30 AM. Once on the 52 to El Cajon you are going agaianst the rush so it will be quick. Same in the afternoon from 4:00 to 6:00 PM, the 52 is against the rush and will be quick then expect some stop n go to Escondido.

I have made the Murrieta commute for almost two years now and this is what I have found.
I leave my house off of the 215 and Scott rd no later than 0520 and with out utilizing the HOV lane I can make it to 32nd street naval base by 0615. My speed in my Prius is around 80 mph.
On the way home I would get out of base at 4 pm and make it to the Temecula check point in 45 minutes unless there was something that occurred, as a wreck which made my commute time double. Although rare it does happen and it sucks when it does.
Utilizing carpool I have shaved about 15 to twenty minutes off of possible commute time. The traversing around the 78 has improved dramatically from the construction. Most of the congestion is around Scripps Poway Ranch exit up to Camino del Norte in the afternoon. Easily passed if utilizing EZ pay toll system. Hope this helps

Hey Vince, that helps a lot.

I'll only working 12-20 hours a week there to start and they seem ok with me coming it at 9-9:30 and missing most of the traffic. We'll see how long that keeps up.

:flipoff2: to another future I-15 slave :frown:

No doubt- You will have a brutal commute. I leave my house at 5:30 each morning to make it to RB by 6:45-7:00. Its a little over 50 miles from my house to the office. It's always a crap shoot- one small thing can cause big delays. If I had to drive any further south- I would consider relocating. Spending more than 3 hours a day in your car can take it's toll. The thing that keeps me sane is my XM radio.

I grew up in the Grossmont-Fletcher Hills area of El Cajon - When it comes time to move -You can find nice areas to live in the East County- the weather is just like the IE- Hot in summer.
