So i carry my arse out to my spare bin to check the difference between a mini birf and a 80 birf. Axleshafts are the same width..
I says to myself ,ehh the 80 birf is a little bigger...pic 1

So i try to slide it into a front mini truck housing.. wrong ! Way bigger pic 2

So that brainstorm turned into a brain fart. Just trying to use the shunt i have around the house

OK so my take on the whole situation is that 80 series bells are larger than 40/mini bells. However the inner axle shafts on the 80 series Longfields are still only 27 spline (same as a stock 40/mini). The 80 series longs are breaking inner shafts just like the 27 spline 40/mini axles used to before he upgraded to a 30 spline inner shaft where it meets the star. If bobby would change the 80 series shafts to a 30 spline inner shaft at the bell they would likely be stronger than the 30 spline mini parts but he doesn't plan to make that change from whet he has told me.

That being said my opinion is to either run a Mini/40/60(depending on what width you want) axle and housing w/ 6 stud knuckles and be done with it. The only drawback to a mini axle is that you are still left with a 8" ring gear up front which I will never wheel with a small block as long as the 9.75" cruiser diff is an option.

I was contemplating a Fab housing w/ a cruiser diff and 80 series bells and HD knuckles (available shortly) but with the 80 series longs still using a 27 spline inner that doesn't sound so appealing. At that point its D60 time.

So FJ60 (wider than 40 and mini axles but not as wide as 80s) axles w/ 6 stud knuckles, 30 spline Longs and either Drop in lockes or ARBs if you have the scratch.

fwiw, dan at ruffstuff has been working on afermarket cruiser housings and 80series knuckle balls for quite a while. the housings are done, the "balls" are still in the prototype stage......

The fab housings are done. The HD knuckles are 4-6 weeks out and the 80 bells will have to be scavenged from an 80 axle because it was cost prohibitive to have the bells made.

At least that's what I heard....

I know... I have some 2.5 Rockwells! Just think how hard it would be to flop!

I'm so over this thread...

I almost had a set of Rockwell's modified with Hummer portals once. In my opinion, I wouldn't do portals unless you're going full width or narrowing your buggy some more. Also, there's a company in Florida that already makes Hi9 portals. I'll have to look to see if I still have their website.

I used to have a Mog9 back in the day. It was pretty cool having all the clearance.

Lenny, look at this buggy. My buddy Shane took TJmark's axles to another level (they are wheeling buddies)

Super light, small hybrid Mogs. I know he would build you a set.

Just let me know when you have $15,000-$20,000 and I will set it up.

What buggy? Did have a pic or a link?

I am not interested in someone else building my axles.

Ruff stuff housing is around-$600
Portals- could get a set of axles full for 2-3k.

Bracket to mount portals to ruffstuff axle housing is the x factor

Custom axle shafts can be made.

I would save a ton in $ on labor..

Here ya go Lenny - found what I was looking for. This was the guy who was gonna make my Hummer/Rockwell hybrid. Couldn't tell ya if he's still putting these out, but they're pretty sweet and, I think, not crazy expensive. Of course there's nothing Toyota about them. :(

Differential Engine - Winter Haven, FL - Hummer
