man, thats a nice build. Kevlars and all, I would be terrified to spend the time getting the orange peel out just to put some scratches in it...
Whats the plan, going after the finish on the paint/ wet-sand and polish or just wheel the thing?

Thanks,
I'm trying to get the thing somewhat finished, I won't be able to finish the hard top or doors for it, so I will put a bikini top on it and maybe get one ride in the mountains before storing her...wet sanding will have to wait until I get back. The paint does not look too bad right now, but it does need some wet sanding to even everything out, I'd like to do that with the doors and hard top on.

Again, this is not a showroom resto...but a functional resto...get the cancer out and protect it from future rust damage, notice the D rings in the back...not a Toyota option :)

Wet sanding out that orange peel is nice return for relatively little effort. I have a couple of bottles of various grits of polishing compound if you need some. Looking nice:cool:

Little effort???? Wet sanding??? No way man, you see that orange peel on the rig? that's going to need some love/pray you don't sand past the clear.

Gotta love that blue btw, im a red car guy for hot rods....never been a blue person. But ever since I owned a light blue 60 iv'e been itching for another rig that color

What ever dude...I was assuming it was single stage. And read "relatively". Considering the effort he has put into it so far. Not a big deal

No need to turn this thread into a youtube comment, i'll keep my thoughts to myself.
I just cant wait to see the rig completed. Im in the springs and happy to give a hand if you'd like. Shoot me a pm if ya need an additional set of hands.

Guys,
It's a single stage paint...you guys are more worried about the orange peal than I am...This is my first ever paint job...so I know I have lots to learn, this is the perfect vehicle for it...I have some over-spray to take care of also, but not concerned at this point...she will have 2 years to cure in the storage unit...then I will tackle the ugly stuff.

If it don't buff out...sand it and re-spray it...that's my motto.

I'm curious why the orange peel would be an issue? Just aesthetic issue? I'm planning to paint the top and hood of my 80 with ACE Hardware rust-stop paint (because the clear is chipping off). I had plans to just roll it on with a foam roller like they use on cabinets and furniture. Doing so would leave some unevenness (is that a word?). So what is the functional/protective issue with the orange peel?

Like I said, I don't have a problem with it...I wanted it painted and protected. Maybe later I will take the time to wet sand it and make it look pretty...but no sense busting my butt on that stuff, if it's only gona sit in a storage unit until I get back...asteticly it's nice but functional wise there is no degradation. If you call it orange peal...then I have plenty of it in the cab and in the bottom...but I call it bedliner...:grinpimp::grinpimp::grinpimp:

Now, if the club want's to come to my Garage and wet sand the thing...go for it! :hhmm:

Yes asthetic only, not a big deal. I have spent wayyy more time with body work than wrenching and there is no advantage to getting rid of orange peel other than the finish comes out better.

The question here is/ is it worth it to spend the time on something that is going to get banged up
For me I would say the toyota blue is a great color for a rig because one as bright as it is it will help hide imperfections in the finish along with the coming damage/dirt.
I personally would not spend the time wet-sanding/polishing a vehicle that I plan on running into things. Keep in mind I wet sand with three different grades of sand paper, then I clean, buff, and polish all with a buffer. For me it's almost if not more time than prepping the body to spray/

Rui,

Looking Good! Two Thumbs Up!

Alex

Thanks buddy...

The orange peel rocks--I did mine that way on purpose.....;)

Yours looks almost like bedliner...looked better than bedliner since it was not as waivy...

I painted the fenders and the other side of the windshield frame...the color of the paint is off...it's a shade darker than the other paint...I'll have to go back and get this corrected...don't want the hard top, fenders and windshield to look different from the rest of the vehicle...I have a tolerance for orange peal...and overspray...but two toned single stage vehicle...no way
