That is funny. I read a post where a guy had free wheeling hubs on his axle and when out on the trail and he and his friends having a few beers one would unlock his hubs for him and laugh when he couldn't move.

I never let them think otherwise unless they were smart enough to actually start asking how I converted them. It made for some good campfire talk.

Cruiser Outfitters emailed me back lightning fast, but unfortunately, they didn't have any 40 Series FF axle assemblies.

Sounds like ordering from them would be a real gamble. Not to mention that I can't stand companies that don't answer their phone.
oh... its a huge a gamble.....since they will lie to you just as easily over the phone or in an email.

I found an old pic of one of my samurai with "FF" rear axle. lol...

I vote for building a ff axle then you know what you have.

I sent that photo to a buddy that likes his Suzukies.

I'm going to try to find one first. If I can't... then I'll build one.
Remember that shipping parts can drive the cost up because of the weight. Some vendors don't give you a choice of shipping and can cost as much as the part or more.

For the welding I farmed out because I don't weld for a living and haven't for about 30 years. So the critical welds I have someone else do it for me.
What happens when you sell the Cruiser? Next person won't have the same luxury. Keep it Toyota someone should be able to identify what part it is.
The hubs and brakes are Toyota only the shafts and the rear cover are not Toyota.

I probably won't sell mine until I'm too old to drive. If I do, I will probably swap the rear end back and keep the FF in case I ever need it. If I have to end up converting my own, I trust my own welding before I would someone else's.

When I was welding for a living I couldn't weld that well. Good job.
I had someone else weld my perches on for my FJ60 axle to match the FJ40 suspension.

I went silent for an hour because I had to go buy this Hi-Lift I found on FB Market Place. Nice find for $40. Looks like it's never even been used.

I think I still have 3 of those jacks. One was my Dad's with a wooden handle. I really liked using them for my FJ40 but don't like them on a heavy pickup.

I got my AAS in Industrial Maintence from Western Wyoming and hit the road as a Millwright and then got into GE gas and steam turbines and have been a Field Engineer since 1999. So I have worked on turbines around the world, back in 2001 I was a ***ishima before it blew up.

I've been working for UPS for the past 20+ years. My degree is in history... go figure... I've been to Japan several times, but never ***ishima.

EDIT: I thought you **** the city name as a joke. lol... funny how the software did that.

I was on that site doing an LP rotor upgrade and then came home for a couple of weeks until the exciter was shipped back and 9/11 happened while I was home and did not want to got back. Then we opened the bearings and found the wiped so that had to be shipped back to North Burgeen for repair and GE had to do a RCA. The oil temp was too low when they were doing the testing at the shop.
