Hello, I need to replace my alternator. Looking for recommendations on a bolt in replacement (possibly upgrade). Ive searched the forum and read through a few hundred conversations but saw few/if any suggestions on what people are having good luck with. Order a OEM from Toyota? Buy something on RockAuto or the local NAPA?

You didn’t mention price, so… Someone said somewhere the 180 is a drop-in. The 270 might be, or might require some bracket work. I should know in a few weeks…

I guess I should have mentioned price, I wasnt really looking for a high end aftermarket modification. The stock 80 amp has worked well emough, I have dual batteries and minimal extra electrical loads (the extra deep cycle battery handles winch loads pretty well). If there was a 100-120 amp exact replacement out there, that would be fine, otherwise I guess what ever is best for an OEM type replacement is what Im looking for.

Thanks for the link, Some good info in there.

Are you sure it's not the regulator? They can be replaced separately. (~$130ish 2020 dollars) job
Same with bearings I believe. (more bananas job tho)
Your setup is similar to mine, tho there are more batteries in play. No lack of current output w/the vintage unit.

Could be a bad regulator , but I have no desire to spend time on it. I have other things to do, rather just swap out the whole alternator and move on.

I chose to buy my new one from Toyota. It had to replace an O'Reilly's crappy one from 8 years prior. I called the dealership while I was enroute to home and the alternator kept shutting down on the highway.

I rolled into the dealership, picked it up, and went home to install. There was never a question if it was going to fit or work.

Replace with a Toyota reman. My original alternator is 30 years old and has only had the brushes replaced.

word on my street anyway ....

is the DENSO blue box 1FZ-FE Alternator , is NLA ?

it can be re-man or a new on , japan or USA ,made luck of the draw there ..,.

@cruiserdan has SOLID advice OEM Toyota ONLY or your regret it

If you have the time and inclination (which I do not), you could always pull one from a junker or buy a part-out, and rebuild it yourself. Not sure how hard or easy that is, but it's cheap(er) AND it's oem AND you know it was done right. Then swap it in and do the same to your old one, and you have a spare.

while hunting on the whole 1FZ-FE DENSO Disc. / NLA units last night i came across this

i swear i did not create this , but its phunny as S#IT :D

How long have you been running your denso reman? Just ordered from rock auto, should be fine but wondering is I should go with the dealer reman. $133 rock auto vs $300 dealer

Jaguar alternator. It required some modifications but works great :)
