Love the parking brake pics... I will definitely need to reference these pics when I dig into mine... Mine will NOT be as clean as yours it's been some time since I had mine apart and I recall I was missing something last time I was in there. I don't think it is the reason for nonfunctional now... Think it is the shoe separating as last time it happened

Where did you get your speedi? Or is it a Timken sleeve?

Thanks Johnny. Speedi sleeve was sourced from SOR. I didnt want to take a chance sourcing it locally. I think Amazon carries ot as well. The parking brake was my most challenging job yet as I was working only from the FSM and SOR schematic .

Why not use the entire 60 axle? You get a wider wheel base (3") which means greater stability. Not too much work to out board the springs a bit.

Our goal with this rig is for the modifications to appear stock. Originally I was going to use a 76 axle for donor brakes but decided on the 60 brakes after the frame was finished(ecoat dip and industrial polyurethane) Also by using the early axle housing, I don't have to change any of my brake line locations.

Starting to think about body and paint. My original passenger fender is twisted beyond my abilities. I was able to find this OEM new fender new from a local cruiserhead for less than what labor to fix the original would be.

Took a few spare minutes and started tearing the 60 axle apart. The donor is from Louisiana and is really clean.

Halfway done with tear down. This goes alot faster when you've done it 3 times.

@reevesci , J what side do I need to use the shorter 40 inner axle?

I had to break the coarse spline off the 68 axles to make them work with the 60 fine spline. Pretty sure the DS (LH) was good, but the PS (RH) had to use the 60 birf with the 40 axle. I may have this backwards, it been awhile.

Thanks Jason. I'm having issues finding a concrete answer. This front axle is driving me nuts.

It only takes a few minutes to swap the birfs from each axle. Keep the 60 axles together and run them into the 3rd. One side will bottom out before the birf is fully into the axle housing. That of course is the one to swap.

Thanks Jim. I am not sure on the wheel bearing grease in the knuckle. It looks like PO did a rebuild prior to parting out. I will be reassembling with the correct grease.

There it is. It had been too long for me to remember which swapped out.

Jim has been a huge resource on my build. I went out to test fit the long side axle and came in from the garage to his post confirming what I found out.

Tearing down axles is starting to get old. Thankfully its over.

Today I had a few spare minutes and torqued the ubolts to 95 ft lbs. Weight is on the suspension and i am happy with the shackle angle. Its only going to get heavier from here.

Next steps are to switch the 60 birf onto long axle, grind my knuckle balls and the hopefully onto reassembly.

I am thinking about retitling to slowest build ever.

I over did the paint on the last set of knuckles and had to remove it from the mating surfaces. This time a spray bomb did the trick.
