I would like to remove the PO bumper and re-install an OEM bumper. Think I can simply grind off the welds and I will be set?

yea, you can just grind those welds off. He didn't want to bend anything else eh??

To reinstall the OEM bumper, you'll need to source the triangle pieces to attach the bumper to - 1 on top and 1 on the side of the frame for each side - 4 total. #5, #6 and #7 in the below pic.

I don't blame ya. I'd want to get rid of that bumper also. You could also look into making your own bumper. Lots of ideas and pics here on mud.

I know this is off the subject, but what springs do you have there? The shackle angles don't look good.

Interesting you ask that, I have been told that before on the rear ones as well.....

BDS 4" Springs and OME shackles. Have been on the the truck for about 5 years and I made sure not to reverse the springs during installation. Any idea why the angles look wrong?

Do #5, #6 & #7 all bolt on or is there welding needed? I assume SOR has these????

#6/#7 are riveted to the frame and #5 bolt on. The factory tow hooks bolt using the back two holes of #5. I just finished making a new front bumper and removed all these pieces. PM me and maybe I can send them to you, I think I saved them.

Why would that matter? The VIN plate is still on the door sill and the VIN is stamped elsewhere on the frame.

i think the one on the frame is more important, don't qoute me on that. body's can be changed, i think the dmv wants the correct frame/title combo.

edit: you should be fine. just be careful cutting the bumper off. be careful if you repair that little hole in the frame on that horn. looks like your vin run directly on it or just above it.

Where else is it stamped on the frame?

Already had cop come out and inspect the vehicle before registering it here in GA. He simply looked at the VIN plate on the door sill.

Can't remember exactly but I have seen it several other places on the frame (when was comparing it to my non-original engine).

Really? I've never heard of any location other than the front frame for the VIN stamp...please share where you found yours.

Yep - it is the VIN plate that needs inspection, not the engine numbers or frame numbers. Not sure if this varies by state or not but most it is just the plate.

Also, doing the frame off and sand blasting and painting the frame, I never ran across another number on the frame  Mine is a '72.

Hmm, I will look it over this week and confirm where they are or confess my wrongness....

Now back on subject! :p

Frame look OK for OEM bumper (holes look like 0)?

Whats the deal with my shackles?

:cheers::cheers::cheers::cheers::cheers::cheers::cheers::cheers::cheers:

Your shackles should be beyond vertical; past the top shackle bolt. If you were looking at the side of the truck, they should look like this / \. Yours are like this \ /.

Are the shackles too tight? Do they flex?
