Doesn’t look like much, but it’s got it where it counts and everything works. I mean everything!

I got this truck a couple years ago and have been going through it since. Selling only because I have a chance to upgrade to a Land Cruiser and can’t keep both.

Originally sold in Durango, CO and lived there most of its life. Has the HAC still on it. Truck is 100% stock with the exception of a few minor upgrades. Runs great and I have the title and smog cert in hand. Ready to work, wheel, whatever.

I’m listing here as I want it to stay in the community if possible. It’s a great little truck with very minimal rust and these are getting hard to find.

Good Stuff:

All new brakes
Totally rebuilt rear diff and axles with all koyo and Nachi bearings
All fluids replaced
All new cooling sysytem with Aisin water pump and aluminum koyorad radiator
New LC wheels and tires, purchased at the dealer and powder coated grey
Bed-off rust treatment and painting of frame
Rebuilt steering box
All new shocks
Sweet vintage Warn bull bar with winch plate
Several bins of extras
Just passed smog a couple weeks ago
168k miles shown, can’t confirm if actual
SR5 cluster upgrade and 4Runner dash binnacle
Correct am/fm radio works great
More I’m sure I’m forgetting

Full disclosure stuff:

The cluster has been replaced with an SR5 110 cluster with an 85mph face on it, so the speed is not accurate.

CA buyers: It was really close on smog this time, so you might need to replace the cat before it gets done again in 2 years.

Urban camouflage paintwork, lots of patina and little body dings.

No frills. The truck only has one belt and no power anything. No AC.

When it’s not fully warm, the egr actuator is a little stiff, which causes some hesitation until it warms up good.

Front axle could probably use a service. It weeps a little on the balls, not bad by any means. I was waiting for it to get worse before tackling.

Seeps and leaks from the engine, but not really enough to stain the driveway. Maybe a drop every couple days.

Haven’t treated and painted the front suspension yet, but that lets you see the original condition.

Feel free to PM me with questions.

BTW, I am the no-account, black sheep relative of @Rusto, and this is his old truck. I rescued it from a certain rusty death at his FIL’s place in Iowa and got it back up to snuff. Between he and I, it’s dialed in pretty good.

I’ll take more pics and get them posted ASAP.

Thanks! Yell your friends.

If this truck was listed locally (Inland Empire) it would be on a one way trip to Mehico with "In Tow" written with tape on the tailgate.

Cool truck, love the 40 series wheel look. Hope you find the right home for it

Correction, this truck would be the one doing the towing. :)

Make me an offer. I’ll give it a couple more days here then it goes on CL and Farcebook Marketplace (Mexico).

Price negotiable

Other stuff I just remembered:

- interior has dynamat under the new vinyl floor
- fuel system was fully rebuilt with all new soft lines, new Toyota fuel pump, tank cleaned and painted, and Aisan carb rebuilt by carburetor exchange in Riverside.
- original bed rusted out due to CO snow and the replacement red bed is from a later truck and was sourced from AZ so no rust. Overall, only a couple minor rust spots on the whole truck.

  • As Mapguy states, I was the previous owner of this truck. I bought it in 2007 from the original owner that bought it here in Durango. When I bought it, I asked the guy why he was selling it he said "I get a new Toyota pickup every 20 years or so."
The mileage is accurate, but impossible to verify as I set it to the same mileage as the original odometer.
  • I sold it to my father-in-law, who hopes of teaching his younger daughters to drive a stick, put around town, etc and have that be the truck they drove through high school. Unfortunately, not long after he bought it, some kids at school had a nasty car wreck that killed a couple of 'em and mom-in-law demanded modern safety features for her two baby girls. So it sat for a couple years :(
  • Enter my cousin, mapguy. Heard the 'yota was going to be sold, and he had to have it!
  • It is very fun to drive. The 22R / 5 speed combo makes it really zippy and of course, off-road it's a billy goat. It was already mechanically in pretty good shape, but cuz really took it the next level.
  • Note on the seller: We grew up spending summers together. We'd always include a couple of special trips to model store where we'd invariably purchase models of a fighter jet and 60s muscle car. I'd be done with my models in about three hours and they'd look like crap. Mapguy would take three days and they could have been in a museum. He still has a couple of them, if I'm not mistaken. That painstaking attention to detail, patience, and craftmanship has stayed with him and you'll find it in this truck.
  • Hate to see it go leave the family, but mapguy is going to buy my 60 from me and finish the build on it as well while I putz around on my 40 for the next 20 years.

Thanks cuz.

I have someone coming to look at it today who seems like a serious buyer. Will update the thread with results.

Potential buyer never showed. Truck still available.

Reduced again. $6500

Sold!! Sent yesterday to a new owner - Young guy from Riverside who is going to finish what @Rusto and I started. Good to see it going to a good home!! Can't wait to get the FJ60 now and get into the mud life proper like. :)

love that shifter. where did you get it from?

I am trying to remember. It might have been Etsy.
