Now really torn on dropping it off to powder-coat or adding some flush mount reverse lights? These combo lights have some decent reverse light in them, plus a little light from the OE tailights which I can beef up with a high output bulb. More needed? Decisions decisions...

Kurt, who makes these taillights? I have one sitting around and it's really useless unless I get a second.

I'll have to grab em and look, same company that Kaymar uses. @SteveJackson actually ordered a bulk of them as they are used on our 7x Series bumpers.

Entirely zero progress. But I did bust her out of storage. And busting it was, both batteries were as flat as Kansas. One jumper pack and a set of jumper cables and she didn't take long to get roaling coal. I've been spending a ton of time behind the wheel of my BJ74 and while I love the 13BT, the 12HT is just soooooo much smoother and more powerful.

So today's progress was limited to a car wash (6 months of storage equals some funky grime) and pulled it into the shop. I've still got to test fit the sliders and rear bumper I've had here for a few years , hoping to make that happen tomorrow.

I'm looking forward to a build that will rival (or more than likely surpass) Stoffel! :D

I've been having a real "then what" contemplation with this rig. I don't exactly need it built up to solve a need so it's really just an indulgence and more or a pain for day to day use. So do I lift it, put some minor protection on and just have something fun to drive?

I've sold a handful of 6x's over the last 10 years because they just sat around, SOA and 37's or bone stock ones too (@MicahMan/Bub's white one, Josh Standfields blue one and Richard Dyatts big champagne 62. I don't want to find myself in that same mood again :D

Awesome croozah!

If you (or anyone) ever has a 12HT collecting dust and need to move it, well...

Hey Kurt! Done anything to the HJ61 lately? Thinking about picking one up from Steve.

Not a thing, in fact I'm sad to say that I parked it at a friend's place (@bryson) while I was traveling South America this summer/fall and I drove it home and parked it when I got home in October. Lame I know. Life, work and play have been busy :D

Continuing on my Covid weeknight and weekend progress that has me down to just 2 non-running Cruisers at the house :D I fired up the Red Dragon this last week. I swapped out some fresh batteries and decent tires (the last ones were rotting originals) and started getting inspired on it again, owing much/all of that inspiration to the spare time I now have with every social, club & training event I had calendared for Spring cancelled :(

I''ve had the Trail Tailor bumpers and sliders sitting in the back of this Cruiser for 3-4 years now, just waiting for sometime and attention. I dropped the FJ45 off for exhaust Friday and turned my attention to the HJ61.

I pulled the factory 60 Series running boards (anyone need a set?) and did a quick test fit of the sliders. I will have to do a tiny bit of frame side modification specific to the HJ61 engine splash guard and left side exhaust mount and shield, easy enough.

From there I turned my attention to the rear bumper. The original on this was in pretty good shape and has the factory mid step (anyone need one with a good rear crossmember?)

Rear crossmember is off and I added a quick weld to the back of the rear crossmember as the bumper mounting requires removing the rear set of rivets.

Years ago in this thread I detailed adding the combo brake/tail/reverse lights. Now I need to decide on adding a couple of flush mount reverse/camp flood lights before I drop it off for powder coating as well as a license plate mount on either the jerry can holder or on the tire carrier. I need to sort that out but I plan to use a 40 license plate light.

Took you long enough...... HA! Good chatting with you again.

Jason

For real. I'm super excited to be working on it again, can't wait to rip around in it.

Sent you a DM on bumper.

One step closer to dropping off the bumper and sliders at powder coating. Tonight I knocked out the license plate frame. With a 33-34" tire the factory plate location would be nearly completely obstructed, no good. I looked hard building a lot disconnectable mount for the spare tire carrier which would affix to the carriers wheel studs and come off when you need the spare. Ultimately I bailed on this as I often have a Trasharoo, Maxtrax or Brai Grill on the tire. So that left the back of the Jerry can holder. I feel bad covering up the @TRAIL TAILOR logo but I'll some stickers to make up for it Jason.

I wanted to run an early 40 license plate lamp, I just dig them. I modified a non US Hilux plate frame with the light. It will overlap the plate by 3/4" but I test fit the Utah plates and it doesnt impact any visibility of numbers.

I need to make a quick decision in flush mounting reverse lights. Thinking something like this on either side of the 2" receiver?

Added the lights. Bumper and sliders are now ready to get powder coated.

I've been cleaning up the chassis and axles in prep for the suspension install. I'm constantly surprised just how clean this Cruiser is. I used a little bit of pen lube on one side of the front suspension... it came apart so easy I skipped lube on the other 3 corners and it just zipped apart

The rear end is ready to hang springs, shocks and the swaybar. I hope to tackle that tomorrow.
