Hey Brisveg,

Do you think those Hella 4000's would fit in the middle of my ARB Bull Bar?

yeh sorry rob missed this one..

is this a pic of your ARB bar? and would you attach them using those holes on the base of the bar not on the hoop?

If your using those existing holes i reckon you'd be VERY pressed to make them fit.. I can measure mine when i get home if you want?

Here are a few pics that might give you an idea on how they sit.. use the headlights as an indication on how far they are spaced apart.

looking closer at the pics you might get away with it. have you bought the 4000's yet? have you considered the compact 4000's?

I read somewhere on the forum that you can get 2 x 8" lights in there, what do you think the diameter of the Hella's are?

Ok, my rebuild is just about officially finished.

I fiited my 16" alloys & 33" tyres over the weekend. Also fitted one and half inch spacers all round to bring the wheel track into line with most other 4x4.

The reason for the spacers is when the beach gets cut up with all the other 4x4 it is now easier to follow there wheel tracks without getting thrown all over the place.

It also makes the FJ handle better with wider track.

Now I can get the last item and that is driving lights.

Ever considered 60 axles? Apparently they have the wider track, by something like 70mm, which is about what youve done with the spacers.. I want a 60 axle in the back of mine, but I also want RDB, so your disc brake bracket solution seems the way to go, but then I dont get the backing plate like I would if I had the earlier 40's backing plate bolt pattern and used cut knuckles and 60 bits.. There is always a compromise.. Very inspiring build, top job!

I looked at the 60 series but it gives you a little to much width. With the spacers it gives me a total of 3" then with the back spacing on the 16" alloys I used which took back an 1" I did not have to worry about the wheels protruding out passed the guards.

Also its getting a little tricky with Queensland Transport as the 60 series axles is past the their allowed width limit for the FJ.

It seemed the best compromise.

Your 40 has come up awesome Watrob! Well done!! A mate grandparents have a holiday house at Teewah and we call in there most times we head up to Double Island...so will keep an eye out for the 40 next time! Would be keen to check it all out in person!

Ok, I understand.. You must have stock width front guards? I can get some widened ones for the front, so I think I might do that..

Hi,

Be careful putting 60 series axles on in QLD. I was lead to believe its not allowed because it increases the track by more than the 50mm rule.

I thought the 50mm increase in track width was only to do with rim offset? From what mates have researched just about any diff width can be approved in QLD as long as the tyres a covered by a solid guard/flare.

A mate will soon be putting 80 series diffs and coils under his IFS 4runner and all inquiries he has made so far allows it all to be approved and that will be 4-5 inches (i think) wider then stock.

1983 rear fully floating hub- suspension with diff so I can install the HiLux disc brakes with solid rotors onto.

Watrob

Please tell me more about the Hilux disc brake conversion, what Hilux parts are used etc - I see its from Eureka (Sporty 40's) Ive tried contacting them from South Africa but never had any response
Do you have a diagram with dimensions of the caliper adaptor plate that you used.

My FJ40 was originally a 1979 BJ40 that I bought in Brisvegas and imported to South Africa, and I'm dead keen on fitting rear discs.
My present plan is considering the option of machining down the front steering knuckles from a 60 series, and using together with 60 series discs and calipers.

Can only do this with the early ff diff that has 8 bolts holding on the backing plate. The 4 bolt ones will require a special bracket - which is whart he seems to have used in this rebuild
