Are these past their use by date? Repairable or to the Bin?

To the bin, especially if you have new(er) balls. But that's advice from the land where ball and claw axles are used for hammers, prybars or marking property corners.

early models had the bars that kept them from over extending, not the cable

Andy, I think this is what you are looking for. This is on my 66 FJ45. Sorry for the poor quality pic.

Replaced the Rear Floor, Mid Floor and recess under Drivers Seat. A new Rear Sill was fabricated and major repairs to the Wheel wells and Rear Quarters.
Used Real Steel replacement Panels.

Great job on the tub.... Looks superb!

Andy ... Were you planning on using the oem top again?

You got it safely stored away right... If it's possible I'd love to see detailed pictures of the top... Now that it is off ... But... When you take it out no rush

Yes it is stored away.
The plan is to use it as the template /pattern for a new one.
I'll get Photo's of it for you some time soon.
What specific Photo's did you want?
