While getting my little piggy ready for winter I noticed that there was some seeping of coolant along the top tank, then upon closer inspection some also coming from the core. Pulled the radiator and sent it to a good reputation shop - they say it's too far gone to save or just re-core. Bottom line need a radiator. Quick look seems options are pretty limited. read several threads - no clear solutions. Anyone have a great solution? Still running the 2F will until she gets to old too pull then may do a conversion SBC? Diesel?

Also need a heater control valve. SOR has them at $130.00 + geeez other choices?

In Boise ID

Help.

Thanks Much!

I've got 2 rads in Helena, a 72? and a 75? maybe a control valve I'd have to look. it's on the firewall?

this should probably be in classifieds not tech

this, and Napa has A/M toyota heater valves for later vehicles that work with cable pull and can have a bracket added to mount to the firewall. cost about 30 bux; might have to go thru the books with your partsman to find a workable option- there are many to choose from. Also pick-a-part prolly has a few yotas with viable heater valve options...I couldn't swallow the 130 for a valve when I can just bypass/unbypass the heater circuit for the cost of a beer and a few drops of coolant each year. the napa valve works great so far- I have not tied the cable to it or mounted it- it is just in line and I am popping the hood to operate the valve; only a bit of a pain at this point of the year- in transition, that is. HTH.

Radiator and heater valve

I've got the radiator at a 2nd shop now - but I'm expecting the same call. I've looked it over pretty close and the description from the first shop was right on with my experience, and observations. Despite keeping a good coolant mix in it, I guess the 38 years just got to it? :frown:

I'm going to look into the NAPA heater control valve. For the $100.00 I'm probably willing to open the hood and make the switch twice a year. Maybe just go retro back to the pit-cock valve on the fitting off the head?

Anyone know how different the 40 heater control valves are from a 55? seems to be a lot of them around?

Thanks

think they are different bolt patterns and maybe even different nipple angles...a bit or inspiration could get the factory "warm pull" cable to operate the valve;) the hood trick is for us who lack attention span:doh:

Did you ever get this issue resolved?

I am in the Boise area and I'm in the process of changing my entire cooling system over and I have both items you need from a 76 fj55.
I had the radiator serviced and cleaned on 10/11/13 and they charged me $85.00 for that service, you can have the valve and radiator for that price if that sounds fair.
