Just found this on Amazon: Amazon product ASIN B0BCKFPNCQ
Would this work for all those folks looking for a receiver? Or do they still need the structure that attaches to the frame?
The CURT receiver is nearly the same price and known to work - the issue for some, with both of these, they only allow 5,000 lbs of tow weight. Whereas the factory hitch allows for the full 6,500 lbs of towing. I would go with the known brand for a few $'s more - Amazon product ASIN B003ZS32CW

I had this one on my 2017 and towed without any issues. Then had an extension welding on the inside for my tire carrier.

I actually have a new one sitting in the garage if you want it.

Edit: correction, I actually have the Curt one.

I have one already on my MetalTech rear bumper, but here's a shout-out to anyone in Washington (state) that may need one, go PM CptRussia253!

In my experience towing with my 460, anything over 5,000lbs just won't feel great regardless of the class of hitch that's on this platform. The short wheelbase combined with the drivetrain don't mix for a towing experience similar to that of a built-for-towing vehicle. Does it work,? Certainly. But in my opinion, being overly concerned with the rating on one's hitch vs the factory tow hitch rating is a fool's errand.

TLDR: I don't advise towing at the capacity Toyota rates this vehicle at. Tow less weight.

Agreed, I wouldn't want to have five or six thousand pounds pushing me down a steep grade or grinding up a steep grade. But there are the rare occasions that one needs to haul something heavy for short distances, and not necessarily on long road trips over huge mountain ranges, days on end.
I'm thinking more along the lines of needing a U-Haul to tow a vehicle, moving trailer, trash, etc. where the trip may only be a short distance. Then having a higher tow capacity comes in handy.
For those rare occasions, I think pushing towards the upper limits of Toyota's tow rates would be fine.

Yes for sure! Agreed on that front. I was referencing more long-hauling. My 2,500lb camper is as far as I will go with the GX as a tow vehicle and I have the Class IV hitch from Lexus with brake controller, sway controller, suspension, and additional airbags in the rear for the weight.

Which is one reason why I bought my RAM 2500. We want to tow without worries. I just couldn't get confortable with towing 6,500lbs. To me the wheelbase is just too small.

My 460 is for pulling the off-road camper. The wife's 14 Tundra is for pulling the redneck Hilton. ;)

Petroglyph of a turtle. Said to be hundreds (600 - 900?) years old.

Below is a Google aerial view of the turtle. The head is pointing north, 4 legs and tail kind of southwest.

We're here for the rig shots! Looks like it was a great trip!
It was a great day out there.
We were pre-running it for our 4x4 club to do this weekend.
Sadly being the Trail Boss for this run, I had to make the call and cancel this weekend because of rain.
There are a lot of slot canyons in there and don't want to be in one of those canyons went it starts to come down.
Also, there are a lot of places it gets really slick when wet.
Slick = less control = damage.

Makes sense. Better safe than sorry. I've been watching too much 4WD 24/7 and probably would not have considered panel damage like our kin down under!

Just pulled the trigger on this OBDII dongle: OBDLink MX+ OBD2 Bluetooth Scanner
Amazon product ASIN B07JFRFJG6Question: Does anyone know if you can get an accurate mileage reading from this? I know with the size of my tires, I'm about 10% off on speed and mileage, but the key word is, "about", so I really don't know what my real mileage is and would like to know when on road trips.

Also, I've been using the Torque on my Android with a very old dongle, and it didn't give me as much info as I'd like. So I guess another question, what's the best app for Android to use with this OBDII reader?

I believe Acrad uses this. Any insights Acrad??

Let me know how this works. I forgot, do you have the GROM Vline2? I've got the Torque Pro app on it and would love to get all my gauges work on it.

Nope. just the factory Lux system (touch screen, nav, etc.)
That would be awesome to have all your gauges on that screen, even an x and y axis inclinometer when wheel'n!
