I got good info folks:

Cargo windows measure 17" x 37", so you would need a strip ~9 feet long.
Back window measures 18" x 52", so you would need a strip almost 12 feet long (11.66).

Mauldin's Auto, in Gainesville, FL, THE auto glass place in town (352-376-2558), gets it in either 100' rolls or in 12' sections. They had two of the 12-footers in stock and ordered three more. I pick up my three sections tomorrow and am paying $12.60 per strip plus tax. $40.16 total, out the door. I was told the part number they got a succesful hit with was the DWLS466 (domestic window lock strip 466).

Q: with the cargo windows taking a 9mm strip and the back window a 7mm, aren't we gonna need two different part numbers??? Jerry Mauldin said the back window will need a round, flanged locking strip (he's got a 250' roll), not the D-shaped one for the cargo windows. And for the record, the correct window weatherstrip adhesive is urethane-based, not silicone (not even the ammonia-free aqaurium silicone).

I'm not doing my windshield because I have on hand the solid aftermarket one from $OR, which I'll install with Sheila's glass soon enough...

OK, anyone have a good tip on how to black out the door handles (I really hate chrome) without having to go to the expense of powdercoating them? I don't want black paint scratching off and showing chrome peeking through. Sanding them down is an obvious thing, but I've had poor results doing jsut that with the headlight doors and grille. I sanded the every-loving crap out of them, but the Rustoleum Industrial scratches off pretty easily. I just got the self-etching hammered black Rustoleum Industrial paint especially formulated for plastic, but have not tried it yet... Any advice? Considering the smooth black Durabak 18 in a pint for that specific application...

I think the 80's toyota trucks had the same handle in black, maybe the van also.

not 100% on the fit..

I wondered why the back window was alot tougher the get the strip in than the two sides. I scratched my new paint on the rear hatch with the screwdriver.

Oh well, I wasn't real happy with the job I did on the hatch paint anyway, Ill re-do it.

but for the record the same rubber will work for the rear window.

On the Chrome handles - I think any kind of paint will eventually wear off, on a high use spot like that.

Get a HF powder coat kit.

Oven cleaner will remove some chrome. Not sure if it would work on the door handles. I've only used it for plastic.

Has anyone used these replacement door handles? They look like just what we'ed need if the goal is a blacked out truck. Probably cheaper than powder coating the chrome ones.

They look like the right thing, and if they are, they would look great! Nice find.
Might be worth it to order one for a try.

Glad everyone is having good luck finding the welts, it seems like we have enough info and part numbers in this thread now to make sure that pretty much any glass shop will know what we are talking about.
As a side note, the rear hatch does use the smaller welt, but the standard strip still fits (albeit snugly) so for simplicities sake I just go with the same one all around.
And I am still working on getting my hands on a full roll, but that has been really slow.

If you guys want to contribute a buck or two.I am willing to give it a test try. My only issue with the one listed is it is PLASTIC not metal like the stocker. At $30 I don't want to spend it on my own for a plastic handle. If you want to contribute PM me and once we hit the $30 mark I will buy it and try it.

Blackout chrome? (slight thread highjack)

Tofudebeest -

Trying to use spray-on bedliner right now on my headlight doors and grill. Will post how well that holds up to scratches. May try the brush on to see if its more durable and UV proof. If it works, would also be nice to redo the trim ring on the windows if you happen to gouge the metal while dechroming

I saw those handles but did not know they were plastic...:rolleyes:

I score a set (4) of handles for $40 and will look into PC them.
I think given the price for all 4 handles, around $120 for 4 of them.......getting them PC would not be that much more expensive...
I'll post up some time this week...
Oh yeah should we start a new tread for these blacked out door handles ??
Tofudebeest ?

how much did that run yah??
Got any pics we all can drool over ?

Hey Dynosaur where are you in SoCal and what glass shop did you use?

I used A1 auto glass in Simi Valley.

I got a local shop to to Powder Coat all 4 handles for $30 on flat black..
We'll see how they come out.....

Yes, they will de-chrome and then PC.....

My local PC shop quoted me $10 per handle. I've got two new-to-me handles coming and as soon as I score two more, its off to the shop, along with the tail light bezel.
