I'll leave the curves and the hills to the Dukes...
But we are flat'nin' some boards here...

After several hours of work.

Did some more dust control work in my basement shop. Decided to tackle the power miter saw, which is a dust producing nightmare. I also wanted to make it a bit more mobile, but still retain the DeWalt stand. I used two Bora mobile base kits so I could get the swivel casters on all four corners:

3/4" plywood base with a laminated 1.5" center span. Now it'll spin 360 degrees and still lock in place. A real necessity in a tight work area.

On to the dust problem:

I can cut everything but extreme compound miters. About a max of 15 degrees, but I have never cut a compound miter on this saw. I have other tools that can do that, but not as easily. If this becomes an issue, I only would need to cut a few more reliefs in the case and sliding doors. As of now, I'm content with basic chops and miters. The enclosure dramatically reduces the amount of sawdust flying around and landing on the floors or other things. It's not 100% effective, but I wasn't expecting that. I'd guess it's probably around 90-95 percent effective. Greatly reduces the amount swept up from the floor to near nothing.

The entire saw can be broken down in under 20 minutes or less. The DeWalt mounting clamps will allow all the upper portion to be removed as one unit. Yeah, it's a bit heavy/awkward for one person to do.

This project took a lot more time than I anticipated. But what the heck to do during all this lockdown nonsense in Michigan. At least the big box hardware stores are open.

I just ordered a set of those BORA base kits from Home Depot - they have them at $35: BORA Universal Mobile Base Kit-PM-1100 - The Home Depot

I saw it earlier in the week and passed. Then walked out to the shop and found that the wheels on the base for my shaper were crumbling apart. They're only twenty years old. Fortunately the deal was still active.

I agree on the dust from the saw. It looks like the same one I have - the DeWalt 12" double bevel saw? My workshop is two story - automotive and metalworking downstairs and woodworking upstairs. But I keep that saw downstairs and just set it up outside or inside the overhead door pointing out to deal with the dust. The containment box looks like a good option, though.

I really, really, really wish the various mfg's of mobile bases would offer the option for the four casters. I've got a number of Shop Fox bases under tools, and (unfortunately) a lot of fixed wheels that are in search of a project. When I called Shop Fox about ordering just the casters (and mounts), it was going to cost more than purchasing an entire kit.

Yep, my saw is an older DeWalt model. 12" dual bevel saw. The stock dust 'chute' is virtually useless. 10% goes in the bag, 90% goes everywhere else. With the present setup, I don't run the bag on the saw. I'm not sure, but when I designed the containment box, I tried to make it large enough to hold a sliding dual compound model. But that's a long way in the future, if I decide to go that route.

I really wish I had know about this. I built a cart for my drill press because is so heavy and I want to be able to move it. I used some heavy scrap I had with Home Depot casters i weld on all my stuff to make everything mobile.

As I mentioned, my old wheels were crumbling. They were a Shop Fox base too. I thought it would be simple enough to just order replacement wheels. Online searches turned up eleventy-billion full caster options and a smattering of just wheels. The wheels were more expensive than the full casters and a set of the casters were more than the whole base kit.

Outside I don't bother with the bag. It fills up with the first cut and still doesn't contain much. Attaching the shop vac to the port does a bit better, but still isn't very effective.

Almost done with the piano fountain. The gold piece is from the sound board and it’s going on the front of the piano. You can see where is was tuned in the 30’s and 40’s.

@The Jade Bean
Nice!

What's this wheel contraption with side casters for mobility?

I suspect it may align with my vice concept. 🤔

I like the car wheel cooker thing @DRANGED . I'm going to make one out of a couple of 20lb propane tanks so it's more at standing height.
@Prairie Swamp
Thx!
That ones a school bus rim. I made another one from a pair of 16" steelies, but its just a scosh small for standard firewood. I'd need 17s or 18s for better fit. 😕

Thanks to the 'Rona I'm finally getting around to my hot tub project. I scored this 2 seater for free two summers ago, and was working out of state for the first year I had it. It was free due to a cracked pipe on the heater, due to a freeze.
I ripped off the old wood paneling, which was falling apart.
IMG_20200424_165300.jpg

Next, I removed the heater tube, and replaced with a pvc section.
IMG_20200424_165307.jpg

I then converted it from 240 to 120v.

I was able to get it fired up, w only cold water for now so I could check for leaks and flush out an ant colony that had decided to make it home.
I still have to splice the light wires together from a rodent biting thru.

Next up will be draining it, and installing a wood burning stove. And residing it.

I gotta find a no cost option. Everybody around here wants $10 for an empty out of date cylinder.
Which one(s) do you want... Hmm i winder what shipping would be. 😆

That’s my homemade vise stand. The wheels help move it.
