Project Wrong Way Saginaw Power Steering Install

If it looks like I'm making progress, don't worry I'm not. In this episode I manage to cut two holes, and lift up the power steering box and set it down again 69 times... give or take. Ran into some fitment issues, but we shall overcome. Enjoy the struggle, provide input if you got it. Like share and subscribe.

Well, with every win there has to be some loss. That's science. I have to make some type of sacrifice to the car gods, if everything just goes perfectly they are not pleased. So, I stripped out one of the holes on the saginaw box.
 
Put a nut on the back if it will fit or if its FUBAR I got a new steering box in windsor you can have.
Man I managed to get it fixed but I appreciate it. It was a PIA though. Had to go in from behind, which meant filing down the box a bit so the stupid thread Chase could line up straight. And since the piece I bought to chase it was so long, I had to do some trimming as well. Not a good time.
 
Thats good news. Now has anyone told you to mount the steering shaft to the nose of box before bolting box up as the fitting ends up right inside frame box where you can not tighten the set screw on the little ujoint. The steering shaft may be close to frame right behind shock tower, dont worry bout it, mine has rubbed for decades. even with MAJOR frame flex. I 've had my hood 3" offset due to articulation, that stuff moves alot. I have a friend who put that motor in an old rabbit and pulls 11's in the 1/4.

This ALH should be a decent powerhouse. Going with a larger turbo, and injectors, plus tune… should see 140hp and 230Tq which is plenty for the size and weight I’m running. I need to piece together the rest of the power steering parts for sure. The tires it’ll be turning are still going to be some narrow 33’s so I hope I won’t be straining the frame too much.

Available at junkyards, or parts stores… with a wiring kit you can adjust psi…

Peer pressure in this community is real. I’ll probably start using cigarettes next… Added some sleeves for the Saginaw box mounts. Tried welding, found out I’m not perfect. Plenty of jokes. Watch and criticize.

I think you are your toughest critic... Not perfect, but you're out there doing it... Grind a little off and try, try again... :) Love the videos Ben!
 
Slow the wire down a bit and quit moving the tip so much, go slower, focus on the point where wire tip meets material, stare at the arc until you can see the arc puddle, if its buidling up on top before it burns in you may need hotter welder. FWIW it will be hard to get a 110 machine to melt the frame, tubes and plate you are working on, been there. SLow it down until it melts back on the wire then bring the wire speed up until it sizzles, if its popping and pushing back, too much wire speed.
