Guess I'll be buying a new ring gear after all.

A friend came over on Sat. and helped me get the 14 bolt shaved and the spiders welded.

I got my 15X10" steelies last week and ordered my 38.5" SX's , they should be here this week. Discount Tire price matched Sams Offroad at $220 a tire.

Similar Project

I've got almost the same project going on. Dana 60/14 Bolt/465/205.

I will start a new thread tomorrow, I'm getting pics put on a disk today.

Are you keeping the 4.10's or going lower? I'm going to run 4.10's for a while and try them. I didn't have the money to change r&p and put all lockers in now. I'm running 39.5 bogger rear/ TSL fronts.

I had to grind on my calipers 15x10 3.5 b.s. But they clear fine now. You'll probably have to grind some regardless.

Are you moving the back axle back and motor forward. The 465/205 is a long combo. My rear driveshaft is still gonna be short. I moved my rear axle back about 8 inches.

I would beef up those front spring hangers. That factory hanger is just too thin. It's ok at the rear, but not the front.

I thought about getting lower gears, especially since I have to replace the front now. I think I'll save the extra money and run the 4.10's for a while. I'm running the same drivetrain that 2 of my freinds are and they don't have any complaints with 4.10's.

I'll definitaly have to grind a little off the caliper and bracket to fit the wheels in the front. The rears look like they'll clear. I'll find out for sure this weekend.

For now the rear springs are flipped to move it back a tad. I plan on doing a 4 link in the rear later on and moving the axle back. I would like to get about 108" wheelbase.

After I get it on its tires and off the jack stands I'll figure out the mounting of the engine. I've got plenty of room if I do decide to move it forward.

I'm not real happy with the front spring hangers. I'm debating doing a 4 link in the front as well. Right now I'm just trying to get as much done as I can to get it on the trail. My wife is expecting our 2nd kid in about 7 months. If I don't get this thing rolling before then, I'll never get it done.

I'll be looking for your build-up thread.

Got a little more done. I reassembled the 14 bolts ring and pinion, made my u-bolt plates, and hung the 14-bolt under the Land Cruiser. Any thoughts on the u-bolt plates? I was thinking about welding a lip onto the plates to add strength. Or should I just leave them as is?

Drive Shafts

What are you going to do about driveshafts. I'm almost to that point myself, but I don't know that much about. Does your 205 have the CV flange on front?

I've looked on different driveshaft websites and I don't know whether to run cv's or get bigger yokes to run 1450 u-joints. I may just have to call somebody. I'm confused.

How much travel are thinking for the front shaft.

U bolt plates look fine. I made mine out of 1/2 plate.

What shocks are you gonna run? I haven't decided there either.

Everything looks good, keep the pics coming.

My 205 has the cv flange front output. I have a driveshaft for the rear, I just need to get the engine/tranny/trans mounted up to see if I'll need to shorten it. I'll probably build my front shaft out of reciever hitch tube.

As for shocks.... Probably some Bilstiens. Haven't really though about shocks yet.

I'm heading for San Diego for a week, so I won't be getting much done.

Replaced the rear wheel bearings and seals and got the wheel hubs mounted and the tires on the axle. It's finally off the jack stands and back down on the ground. Ok, well I put the axle back on the jack stands to keep the weight off of the tires so I don't get flat spots. :D

Not much progress lately. I ran into a snag putting togther my front gears and locker. One of the thrust washers between the side gear and the carrier was munched. Noone has them in town. I had to order them from the dealership. I ordered them 2 weeks ago and still haven't got them yet. I started to setup the gears on Sat. without installing the locker. Got the Pinion set, but ran out of time before I could get the ring gear bolted on to check the backlash (spent most of the day running around looking for the tools I needed and getting my new impact wrench). I got the old carrier bearings off and ground down to slide on and off to get the shims squared away.

Today I picked up my new seats, I just have to make a bracket for them.

Nope, I'm in AZ. Toylet is just my cross between Toyota and Chevrolet since this project incorporates both.

I finally got my gears setup in the front. I went to install the locker and found that they sent me one for a Dana 30. I e-mailed them to let them know of the mix up and they put the correct locker in the mail the following day with a return label for the other. Should be here on Tuesday.

Got the front end finished FINALLY. Correct locker is in and gears are all setup. I think next time I'll pay someone to setup my gears. Got side tracked building my tube bender. I have to finish a few welds and order my die and it will be done. Gonna send off my D44 flat top knuckle to Sky Manufacturing to have them drill and tap it for high steer. I'll post some pics of the bender this weekend.
