Loved the last "Piggy" build, it came out beautiful. Can't wait to see how this one shapes up. Would love to know who the body guy is.... I am picking up a Piggy today... and it is going to need some help.

Really looking forward to this one!

Holy Hijack! It was mostly a rhetorical "whats missing" Not a quiz! So, it is possible to run without the cover on. It will not keep water out, but it keeps mud and road debris out of the clutch. You can shorten your clutch life without it, so its kind of silly not to have it on. You can also run your rig without an air cleaner, or valve cover, but its not really a great idea. OK, end of Hijack, it was my fault anyway. I forgot the most important first step to any project.

APPEASE THE TIKI!

TikiGod001.jpg

This tiki watches over my garage, and must be placated from time to time. I had been neglectful. I washed his car, rearranged his flowers, and gave him a fresh shot of Pabst Blue Ribbon.

The Tiki God MUST be appeased.

Dang. No pics today?:frown:

I apologize for the lack of current photos. Trying to finish the storage shed. (to keep all those FJ55 parts safe) Clean the house for company. Fix the 78 FJ55s parking brake, and kludge together an actual website. I got it up, it aint pretty, yet. But with so many projects, I gotta get organized.

Not to worry pig people. I will continue to use ih8mud to document all FJ55 projects.

Whew. I was starting to worry. I am living vicariously through your build thread.

Wow! This rebuild is gonna be like free and easy money for you!!!

Yeah!

Oh wait, except for the roof. And the rear quarter panel. And the leetle holes everywhere like the metal moths have gotten to it.

But seriously, it IS great to see that some areas are not worse than we expected. So far.

Must continue to appease the Tiki! His Tahitian mail-order bride is on the way!

And although this is my pig and it is as near and dear to my heart as any family member (well, actually more than some ;p) this kind of news makes me happy that I didn't sell or part this pig out. Not that this is any great reflection of my practicality.

But everyone has to have at least one vice.

Some days, you make great progress, some days, a 4mm bolt whups your butt:bang:. Anyway. Got most of the engine compartment fender stuff unbolted. Except for the drop light outlet. *stupid bolt*

But it is always good to have some assistance. Even if the assistant is under 3 years old.

smooth sailing today. got the passenger fender off, got the inner fender cleared of parts, remembered to hook the battery back up and take out the rear window BEFORE completely removing the electrical system. Got the radiator out (cleanest fluid I have ever seem come out of a car that old!) And even got started on the interior. That was where the good news ended. See final picture for why.

My interior looked just a bit worse. I ended up having to cut out that entire rusted area and weld in new metal. k9crazy had to do the same thing. What did the rust looked like when poked at? Was it just surface???

Ouch....that's add at least 3 hours of bodywork time.....at least.

Mine was similar but repairable. A lack of drainage holes in the low areas & that rubber mat that traps condensation = :bang: Your seam will be wasted. Hopefully you can still salvage most of the curved areas around the seats. Hows the back corner area at the doors? I had to totally rebuild that area both sides :meh: Lookin good so far

That rear seat area is pretty standard for rust.

Well, more progress. First two pics are front floors, next two are close ups of floors near seat pedestal. They look fine underneath, but there is some heavy scaling. We shall see what happens when its blasted. Might be okay, might be pinholes, might be gone! Who is to know these things....

Jason,

Do you mind detailing how you pull the center dash out? My windsheild washer knob needs attention and I am having a hard time getting to it...

TIA,

PS, I think my 2.5 year old would like working on "Land Cruiser Pig" with your girl...

I will take some notes tomorrow morning. IIRC, its kinda a pain, as in hand pain trying to get your hands inside the dash to undo stuff.

And as for getting the help together, sure, we can hit up a couple days where an extra hand, or 2 hands, 4 little hands, could help.
shoot me an email, we can figure something out.
