Oh, and on the locker thing..... I'd go ARB over the factory electric option any day.

hahahahahaaa aaahhhh............................................................. ...

What are you talking about Cam???????????????:rolleyes:

Good thread dude.... been watching the progress on Facebook too.

Pulled my front axle apart to do seals, trunion bearings, wheel bearings, rotors, pads, ABS relocator kit, and part-time hubs! Pretty cool kit from Marks to relocate the ABS sensors. A new reluctor ring goes behind the rotor and then a bracket holds the sensor. Who knows, maybe it will save my life one day! (vs. not having ABS)

Nice work! Can't believe how fast you are progressing on this. If I ever own an 80; this part time kit would be very high on my priority list. How many mpg savings do you think it is good for? 2mpg+?

Nice clean work man. See you at the meeting Cruiser meeting, I have $$ for you (and beer).

Hmmm... Well I have 9 fill-ups of MPG data on the FZJ80 so far. Average 15.86 L/100 km. So to get an accurate comparison I'll have to install the spool in the transfer case BEFORE I put the diesel engine in. Which is less convenient than doing it out of the vehicle. BUT... in the name of Science, I will see if I have time. But, I expect the savings will be less than 1 L/100 km. The main savings will be on front end wear and birf de-souping. It will also give me less driveline slop which will be nice with the manual transmission. .....And BURNOUTS :hillbilly::hillbilly::hillbilly:

Nice clean work man.

HA. What I didn't photograph was me pulling an axle shaft in the dark and shattering an ABS sensor.... and the next day rushing to hammer an inner axle seal and buggering it up. And about 10 trips to 2 Lordcos, NAPA, CanTire, JB, RADD, and Rocky Mountain looking for all Koyo wheel bearings and Koyo trunion bearings, and oops forgot gear oil and oops need another seal for the buggered one and oops ran out of moly grease and oh yeah gotta bleed the brakes need fluid, and, and... I tell you it's a darn good thing I don't live in East Sooke or something! :bang::bang::bang:

Cool, those are two of my favourite things!

Like the kit, both sides have abs?:D:beer:

Awesome. Glad i'm not the only one with these issues. My "go to" move is to install the inner grease seal before the inner wheel bearing..... Done that several times. Doh:bang:

I replaced part of the center diff with the spool from Mark's. Will see what effect part-time 4WD has on my fuel economy before I pull the gas engine. Didn't get any photos, but Leon was interested in the shiny gears that are left over.

I also figured out how to add the "auto-up" feature to my driver's window!!! My JDM had auto-up and auto-down, but the USDM only has auto-down. (Safety feature, I guess, so kids don't get their fingers pinched.) I ground off two little plastic tabs so the switch will physically move into the auto-up position, and then I had to add the missing diode to the circuit board. I have no idea what kind of diode this is, but I just swapped it from my JDM truck :) Now we're cooking with peanut oil!!! :hillbilly:

Cute lil guy, nice work...

WHAT A DAY! Got my Customs form for my manual transmission that arrived in Vancouver from Australia. Missed the 11:00 am ferry, caught the 12:00. Warehouse on Annacis island closes at 3:30 for the weekend... Drove like a maniac to the CBSA office at the airport. Oops, forgot my invoice, gotta find an internet cafe to print it off. AND THEN... "for personal shipments you must clear DOWNTOWN" :bang::bang::bang::bang::bang:

Ok, call warehouse, plead with them to wait for me. Park at Bridgeport, SkyTrain downtown. Find an internet cafe, print off eBay invoice. Sprint to CBSA office. Their cashier closed 10 minutes ago. Frick. Talk to a supervisor. Officer is a bit grumpy about a vague eBay invoice. I'm like look dude charge me duty on the full amount including shipping I don't care just LET IT CLEAR. So they made it happen. SkyTrain back to Bridgeport, drive like a maniac to Annacis Island... arrive a full 1.5 hours after they close. Turns out they have a "night shift" of guys un-stuffing containers. Slip the forklift driver a $20 and he helps me out even though it's "after hours".

AND THE CRATE EVEN FIT IN MY TRUCK WITH 2 INCHES TO SPARE FROM THE CEILING!!! :grinpimp::grinpimp::grinpimp::grinpimp::grinpimp:

and theeeeeeeen.......... off to New West to buy a 12 volt starter for my swap so I don't need to fart around with series parallel solenoids.

and theeeeeeeeeeeeeeeenn....... Richmond IKEA. Turns out the workers are on strike?!?!? Who even knew they were unionized? But management still had the store open so I got my fill of cheap plastic and particle board. Too bad the restaurant was closed :(

And now I'm on the 9:00 pm ferry back to Victoria.

All made possible by iPhone navigation! THAT IS HOW WE GIT ER DONE BOYS :hillbilly::hillbilly::hillbilly::hillbilly:

And the best part? I have a 5 speed manual transmission in my truck! Unfortunately, it is still in a crate...

Aaaaand the iPhone got the photo upside down. Well you can't win em all, you just can't win em all...

Great project - who is doing the wiring conversion? - apparently it took Sheldon a long time to figure it all out.

I would think the wiring to be not that tuff a task..

Maybe when you get the engine in and closer wiring me and Jay could drop by and have a boo at your project..Maybe lend a hand.

who is doing the wiring conversion?

Me. Got EWDs for both trucks, and it has been done many, many times before so if "they" can do it, I can do it :hillbilly:

But I hit another small delay. Turns out gasser and diesel bellhousings are slightly different. I was told otherwise, and they are close (I'm sure a redneck could make it work) but I will order the correct one. Also somehow ended up with the smaller flywheel for a 1HZ so I'll have to order one of those too.

Edit ...Oooops manual tranny..

You got the foot pedal assembly and stuff...

Well here's a photo of the tranny out of the box. Man I could spend hours just shifting this thing in my garage. And when you spin one shaft, the other spins at a different speed depending on what gear you're in!!! Amazing!

Also discovered that the RHD skinny brake pedal does not fit around the steering column flexible coupling. I guess RHD has the steering shaft in a slightly different position. Or else it's a difference between the model years. Anyway, I hacked up my old and new brake pedal to make a hybrid which will work and still put the pedal in the correct location.

Now I'm just waiting for my bellhousing and clutch parts and then I can start putting the new drivetrain together!!! Hopefully should arrive in the next week or two.

Christmas came in October at the Morbey house :) :) :) I can't turn these wrenches fast enough... I can almost smell the diesel exhaust :hillbilly:

Ah yes, I see many little things there one might not consider when compiling a list for a diesel swap. Shifter boots centre console and that sweet shifter knob. The bell housing and backing plate on the other hand must have been a bit of a sting. Looks like you are well on your way now.

Thanks for the bits and pieces the other day, hope your boy's birthday went well and that he liked the shift knob, bell housing and shifter boots etc. you bought him. :D

On a side note (that might anger some) I followed a diesel 80 the other day..... it was two tone with at least 1/2" of mud and dust it had just as much dust on the inside as well. It leaned a lot to the drivers side, appeared to have different size tires on each corner and all in all looked un loved, mis treated and generally abused. Thing of it is..... no smoke. Not even at red lights. Go figure.
