Just had a hard time getting the screw back in to the door handle trim… will need to find some longer screws for that…

Nice! It was a cool weekend here in Atlanta to be doing that work! Good on you for doing it. I dont like the cold but apparently it had me out in it at 30 degrees working on my pickup project.

Some updates…

I added a couple (more) rigs to the stable because it was a buy-one-get-one kinda situation… and basically I have no restraint.

That being said, my lovely wife said that nothing comes to the actual house (having the 2 x FJ40s shipped to my sister in laws farm about an hour away) until Project Bush Cricket is buttoned up and one of our daily drivers…
Soooooo… let’s get motivated.

First, ordered some new OEM Sun visors from Abu Dhabi, maybe? The old ones just weren’t saveable…

Next, the obstacle preventing that carpet going in is getting ALL of the wiring done for the stereo…

✅ Wired the Joying CarPlay head unut
✅ Ran wires for the 5-channel amp
✅ Ran wire for the rearview camera… looking forward to fishing that where it needs to go
✅ Ran the wire for the sub…
✅ Modified the sub bracket by cutting it bigger, and sandwiching between 2 x pieces of sheet metal and using thick double sided tape along with some extra sound deadening butyl mat to keep the vibrations to a minimum. It actually turned out great, and is waaaay more stout than I thought it would be, and still fits behind the OEM panel and uses OEM mounting points.

Next steps are testing the stereo to make sure everything works, and then start laying the carpet in, cutting holes, and transferring the OEM brackets from the old carpet to the new…

Please show how you mounted the Joying stereo on your dash
We'll be doing that next week. I bought a factory pocket and gonna figure out how to attach the stock mounting plates to the sides of the joying/pocket. I'll post pics when I do it!

✅ Modified the stock mounting brackets and ended up having to do a little cutting on the top of the trim panel when we put everything back together… but it all fits

✅ Got the sub Install all buttoned up with polyfill
✅ Replaced the RCA cables with something more plyable that fit the back of the radio better
✅ The screen fits like a GLOVE and follows the factory lines
✅ Also not pictured is the backup camera installation
✅ Relocated the rear defrost button which was hidden by the screen to the bottom left…

Cleaned the inside up and putting in the new carpet tomorrow, weather permitting, and then it all goes back together pretty fast!!!

✅ Traced old carpet to get jute cuts and then traced some more to get carpet cuts… and went to town
✅ Rear carpet and all of the trim reinstalled.
✅ Reinstalled the 3rd row… anyone know what’s the part number for the little arm on the bottom of the third row? My driver side hook-clip is broken and need to replace it for the 3 times in the next 3 years that I prob use the third row.

That’s not a lot of check marks… but it took about 4 hrs to do it right and it looks great. Ended up pulling up the Ensolite close cell foam off the rear wheel wells and didn’t put any down in the center of the way back… just jute, carpet, and a little sweat.

Hopefully tomorrow we get the front in.

Man that is going to be nice!

✅ carpet is IN. And it smells/looks good… I’m very happy with how it turned out

Still have a few things to do…
💩 hook the amp back up and get it mounted on the floor… and fyi this soundstream Picasso 5-channel amp 1) looks good and 2) works good and 3) fits perfectly under the seat
💩 need to mount that passenger seat
💩 need to go for a ride!!!!!!!

Of course, then we gotta change out all the other fluids in the diffs, tcase, and transmission, and then of course mount the 33s on the new steelies and figure out what’s next!

✅ Amp mounted and everything adjusted, sounds great
✅ Tailgate carpet replaced and reinsrallwd
✅ Rearview camera wired up and functioning

Getting ready for a few items this week…
💸 Ordered new rotors/pads from rock auto so when we bolt on the spacers with some locktite, we won’t have to remove them to do the brakes…
💸 Also went ahead and ordered up a set of rancho 5000s all around, not because I love the product but rather because I’m not sure what if any lift is going on this rig (leaning towards a stock height OME kit) but in the meantime these shocks were $32/each and will replace some tires units…
💸 Lastly (for now) received my replacement steering wheel from @4060seriesnut and it looks great. Perforated leather AND came with an airbag… that’ll happen this week for sure…

just received a backup camera from the usual suspect, and was wondering if you have any tips on mounting and wiring up the camera?

looks like you snaked the cam wires into the tailgate through the light housing? then where...through the existing grommet/sheath? where did you pick up the reverse signal? my cam has built in guide lines, and so does the headunit. both have the ability to disable the guidelines. does yours? and if so, any thoughts on which you prefer?

First where'd the wires come through? Yes, snaked through that sheeth connecting tailgate to the rear sill, was a pain getting the RCA type connector through, but some spray white lithium grease and patience got it done.
I got power from the passenger side reverse light, tapped into it since it's on when in reverse, and ran that wire through the grommet at the bottom of the rear passenger quarter (that's also where I ran the backup camera signal wire to get to the tailgate grommet).
Tied all the wires together inside the tailgate and zip tied it so nothing rattled, and screwed a small ground wire into the inside of the tailgate.

For the guide lines, I believe I can turn them off/on with the unit, they're currently ON, but I guess I don't pay too much attention to them... so I don't have an opinion on that.

Soooo… Where did we leave off…?
We were gonna just replace the shocks and get the spacers and wheels mounted up along with some fluid changes.
That all came to a halt on the LAST shock… the rear driver side one to be exact. As we were loosening the bottom bolt (the one in the sleeve) we heard (and felt) the SNAP… bolt broke inside the sleeve and we had to switch gears. ****!!!!

Instead of spending at least a full day getting the rest of the bolt out, I opted to drive her to my buddys shop, and just have them take a look over everything on the lift, get the bolt out, and go ahead change the rotors/pads and mount the spacers/wheels and tires…
