@HoundDog is the axle in the truck or out? If in the truck put a jack under the pinion and put some pressure on it. Let it set and it will eventually Separate.

I got it. A 4lb hammer and chisel did the trick....

@Jakes40 the axle is out of the truck on the workbench, but thanks for the tip.

Thanks for encouraging the gorilla fellas....

My tool of choice is a wide blade stiff putty knife. Gotta get one that is all steel with plastic pads for the handle. Took lots of third members out using this over the years...…...

So I got some pitting on my rear axle shafts. I have new bearings and seals going in the rear. Would you guys run these, or is it time for new shafts?

If that's the surface the seal rides on I'd get new axle shafts or you'll just wear the seals out.

Any recommendations for who makes good quality shafts? RCV, Nitro, Longfield?

Glad I didn’t sell or donate my 80, it’s my designated beater at the moment. My Hzj73 has some charging issues and I hope it’s something simple as changing the voltage regulator. I think The 2 batteries weren’t equally charged, thus making the alternator work harder? I don’t know?... I’m researching and trying to figure it out. Next step is installing 2 new batteries, a new voltage regulator, and brushes and see what happens. I forgot how smooth the 80 drives; Even with all The rust:cautious:. I sold the front bumper/winch and sliders, took the bumper swing outs off so I can haul plywood. The rear pan hard mount on the 80’s axle is Ugly:alien: but secure and if time permits, I will weld a new one on.

Let me know if you want to come by and hack together a front bumper, I have some tubing and the club bender.

We actually have a 2010 Element in the fleet. I love it, and have only kept it to give to my older daughter. She's 18, still doesn't have a license, and is going to college in the Fall.

I did some quick googling, and saw quite a few very cool looking lifted Elements... Uh, oh! :worms:

You've probably seen the Off-road Element site. It's amusing seeing the videos of peeps beating these thing up.

The water-break in the pic looked a lot bigger on approach; still plenty clearance under the fuel tank umm... twig guard, that's the lowest hanging fruit on the car. Approach and departure and ain't bag though and no problems with the bike rack hitting the dirt.

Hmmmm think we could do something like this with the OEM front bumper (harbor freight hitch mount)?

Figured after 6 years ?? of running the 40. And with the bad valve seats I treated it to a little tune up. Cap, rotor, plugs, and wires. Retimed it. I’m going to reset the fuel mixture settings this week.
Trying to keep the old F running!
I need to get on the ball and get my 2FE project going.
